Poor little Puddlejumper (my laptop). He has a bad heat sink, it seems, and it needs to be replaced. This would explain the unrequested, unexpected emergency shutdowns I've been experiencing off and on for the past few weeks. Luckily, I had the foresight to get on-site esrvice back when I ordered it, so I don't need to ship my link to the world off to an unknown place to get fixed. They'll call sometime next week to set something up. And because it's a laptop and therefore portable, I can give them my work number and have it all taken care of there. This is key, as the next few weeks will be crazy at work and I won't be able to take off at a moment's notice or take a day off to wait for a service person.

*crosses fingers that this fixes the problem*

I don't know how long ago it was that the lightbulb in my bedroom overhead light blew out, but it's been a significantly long time, probably at least eight months ago. I'm too short, even with a step stool, to reach the fixture, and I have a small bedside lamp that works well enough, so I've never bothered to deal with the problem. The landlady's son was here earlier to replace the smoke detector batteries (hers were beeping a warning, so he wanted to get mine as well, while he was thinking about it), and he gamely climbed up on my rickety little step stool to fix the light while he was here. So now I have a decent light in the bedroom again. Of course, I'm so used to it being burned out, it will probably take me weeks to get back in the habit of using it again.
