Who's got an owie?

Poor little Puddlejumper (my laptop). He has a bad heat sink, it seems, and it needs to be replaced. This would explain the unrequested, unexpected emergency shutdowns I've been experiencing off and on for the past few weeks. Luckily, I had the foresight to get on-site esrvice back when I ordered it, so I don't need to ship my link to the world off to an unknown place to get fixed. They'll call sometime next week to set something up. And because it's a laptop and therefore portable, I can give them my work number and have it all taken care of there. This is key, as the next few weeks will be crazy at work and I won't be able to take off at a moment's notice or take a day off to wait for a service person.

Poor little thing! Hope it is feeling better and "functioning up to its full potential" soon.
(the quote is from a sign on the front desk at the Ole Miss gym: "The hand scanner is not functioning up to its full potential." It creeps me out that the gym has a hand scanner for identifying patrons, but makes me laugh to think that it suffers from the scourge of underachievement.)

One of the things I thought about doing this morning was going to Best Buy (to buy an external harddrive for backup purposes), but that's a trip of huge effort, and it didn't happen. Possibly tomorrow, since that's the last day that my Pitt ID is valid as a bus pass and after that I have to start paying for bus rides again. Of course, tomorrow being Sunday the buses will be running on ridiculously shortened and spread out routes so it will require careful planning if that's to happen.
