Jun. 20th, 2006 01:40 pmSecond day back at work and I'm officially exhausted. Yesterday was kind of fun, seeing a lot of my old kids (all much bigger now), and saying hi to all their parents. I've already got babysitting lined up. Yay!
I was walking home after work yesterday (supposed to be done at 1, didn't get out till well after five) feeling very tired and a bit sorry for myself that I had to walk all the way home, when suddenly I hear a familiar voice hailing me from across the street, offering me a ride.
This was a parent who used to give me a ride a couple times a week, whenever our schedules coincided, but I was totally unprepared to have her see me and offer me a ride on my first day back. It was a good feeling.
Today we took the kids (25 four and five year olds) to the swimming pool. I don't own a swimsuit, but I wore shorts and stood in the shallow end - we only use the shallow end so that wasn't a problem. But an hour at the pool, out in the direct sun, trying to make sure 25 kids don't drown themselves or their friends, is a little tiring. I could really use a nap, right about now.

Awesome. How lucky was that.
Sleep well.

Date: 2006-06-21 01:18 am (UTC)After two days with this age group I'm about ready to be done with them. Some of them are sweet and cute but some of them are just hard work. *sigh*
I just have to keep reminding myself that once I get through this year I'll have my MLIS and I'll be able to give up daycare forever!

Date: 2006-06-21 11:01 am (UTC)I hope you had sunscreen. Nice to wade around on a warm day, though.
Are the kids glad to see you? Do they remember you? I know that when they are that small, a year is a very long time.

Date: 2006-06-21 11:16 am (UTC)Sadly, very few of the kids actually remember me; I didn't expect them to. As you said, at their age, a year is a really long time. The kids that I babysat, especially the ones that I babysat for two or three years remember me better than the kids that were just in my room once upon a time two or three years ago, lol.

Date: 2006-06-22 11:02 am (UTC)There are moments when I enjoy the work and moments when I wonder how I'm going to get through another year of this, but I think I'm glad I'm a floater this year. Even just being in the same room all this week, I'm getting tired of some of the kids. Hopefully I'll be moved around more next week and get a chance to see some different faces, not be in one place long enough to really have to deal with the snotty side of the kids. :)
