Nov. 20th, 2009

I'm in a good mood today. Mal came out and played with his toys yesterday, for the first time in a month. Now, admittedly, as soon as Zoe joined us in the living room Mal took off for the safety of the bed. Still, a week ago, he was hiding under the bed all the time, even when Zoe was safely locked away somewhere, so I'm seeing definite progress finally. All I have to do is keep one or the other of them locked up when I'm out of the house and at night, and most of the time when I'm home, too. We seem to have settled into a decent rotation. Most days and every night it's Mal in the bathroom. Once or twice a week, I give Mal the run of the house and keep Zoe locked up during the day. Such a day is today. Mal was out and about when I left for work, and I'm hoping to see him still out and about when I get home. That would be a really nice way to start the weekend.

Conversation with [livejournal.com profile] eve11 at the gym yesterday:

{me} Really, I'm just a cranky pessimist.
{eve} No, you're not.
{me} Well, I try to disguise it with optimism.
{eve} You should start a blog called The Cranky Pessimist.
{me} That's what my blog is already.

Or something like that. Anyway, I liked the idea of calling my blog The Cranky Pessimist. And so I went forth to find the most obnoxiously cute and cheerful theme possible to pair with my new title. And then I went forther to find a new default icon (because theme and icon must always match).

I doubt if this will last long, because I actually liked the holiday stripe thing I had before (and because I'm having too much fun playing around with themes and icons and stuff), but I actually kind of like this elephant theme too. This is Spring Elephant. I really liked Winter Elephant better, but it wasn't quite as aggressive in its cute cheerfulness.

In other news, I received an invitation to go somewhere for Thanksgiving. I was planning to just stay home and do my own thing, which is what I've done for the vast majority of the past eight to ten years, but I'll probably have more fun with this family than I have the last few times I've ventured out to join someone else's celebration. And it means I don't have to engage in crockpot roulette. Yay!

Eta: Hm, somehow that entry I posted this morning got set to Dec 20 instead of Nov 20. It gave me fits just now, trying to figure out why this entry wouldn't post. *shakes head at mysteries of lj-land*
