A weekday adventure
Jul. 4th, 2012 08:18 pmI haven't quite seemed to find the knack for sleeping in the new apartment. I don't know if it's just because it's so damn hot, because my bedroom slants downhill so I'm sleeping at the foot of my bed, the placement of the fans not being quite right, or what. Whatever it is, it results in restlessness, trouble dropping off and frequent awakenings during the night. All combined, it makes mornings no fun!

lyda_pearl and I took Shadow for a walk in Frick Park this morning. The little wetlands area at one end of the trail has grown up a lot since the last time I was down there. I don't think I realized there were baby trees in there, but now they're getting pretty tall. You can't really see more than a few feet into the growth now, whereas a few years ago it was all just low scrubby growth and you could see clear across to the other side. It was a good walk for everyone, I think. Shadow got in trouble a few times for growling/barking at other dogs, but she got to sniff lots of things and go swimming a couple of times. And it was good to triumph over the sluggies that would have kept me sitting on the sofa all day.
After leaving the park, we wandered over to a new coffee shop a few blocks off the main drag. We were disappointed to discover they were closed for the holiday, but we sat on their deck for a few minutes and I took some pics while we were there. All along one wall of the deck, they had these cool faces carved into driftwood. Plus this fellow:

In the afternoon, we went to Joann Fabric, to pick out embroidery floss and Aida cloth for my current cross-stitch project. They didn't have two of the colors I need, but I'll just order them online and be done with it.
This evening I may go out to see the fireworks - in theory, there's a place a couple blocks from here where we should have a great view of them - or I may just crash in front of the tv with a movie. Only time will tell.
