Costuming procedes apace
Jul. 27th, 2014 12:36 amYesterday after work several of us gathered at a local restaurant to bid farewell to one of my teaching team, who is moving out of state. We had a nice time and I realized how very little I drink any more. Two small glasses of white wine and I had a nice buzz going. Even after the fifty minute brisk walk home and another hour of unwinding, I still had a bit of a buzz going, so I got no work done last night.
My plan for today involved sleeping in (didn't happen) and then going to the Southside to check out thrift and vintage stores for some pieces to put together for a Miss Marple costume (for a Legendary Sleuths group at Dragon*Con). I was feeling tired and out of sorts, and vaguely unwell, and then I got my period. So I stayed home and worked on Jabe instead, for the better part of eleven hours (holy cow that's a long time!). I did not make nearly as much progress as one might think I should have after all that time, but I did get a decent amount accomplished. I still have a third or a quarter of the head to texturize, but it's coming along nicely. If I put another full day in tomorrow, I'll be quite satisfied with where I am compared to my projected schedule.
In the process, I've been watching a fair amount of Doctor Who. I got as far as River's big reveal episode (Let's Kill Hitler). I also watched a couple of Miss Marple episodes (of the Joan Hickson variety). I've got a good feel for how she dresses, now I just need a time machine of my own in order to find all those pieces between now and Labor Day. I did find a great vintage pattern that really matched her outfit almost exactly, but there's absolutely no way I can modify and sew Jabe's outfit and actually sew Miss Marple's outfit as well, and there seems like a much higher likelihood of finding something that will do for her at a thrift store. Jabe, well, that seems improbable at the local Goodwill.
