Pump. You. UP!
Jan. 22nd, 2015 08:53 pmIt was with great trepidation that I stepped up onto the treadmill after work this evening. It had been almost exactly two years since I last went running, and after this past Christmas break I have been feeling as if the very last of my leg muscles had been siphoned off and replaced with jello. I haven't gained a ton of weight, but with the muscle loss inevitably comes a gain in fat, so there's been a good bit of spread. Ugh!
Despite a lingering fear that I would get a quarter of a mile and then collapse into a sobbing, quivering heap, I managed to do two miles in 23:19 - I ran at a slow but reasonable pace for all but a one-minute breather after the 1.5 mile marker. And for the tenth of a mile before walking, I sprinted at 6.0.
I'll only be doing the gym once a week for now, after work on Thursdays, but
eve11 and I also have a plan to do weights at home once a week, conferring through text messaging to keep on course. It would be lovely to slim down some (although I doubt I'll see a huge difference) but it feels really necessary to rebuild that lost muscle. I'm starting to reach a critical juncture where I feel like if I lose any more muscle it will become almost debilitating and quite possibly too hard for me to come back from it. So the line in the sand was drawn here. Wish me luck.
