Firing up the whammy
Aug. 1st, 2006 08:11 pmNot so impressed with the newbie at work.
It's her second day on the job and yesterday she spent all of five minutes with our room. Today she is complaining about the time clock policy - don't clock in more than five minutes before your shift starts. Apparently she wants to come in whenever it suits her, stay as long as she feels like, and then leave when she's ready. That's a great idea and then we'll just leave all the kids to fend for themselves because really, they just get in the way anyway.
We took the kids to the pool today and she wasn't dressed for waterplay. Okay, that's fine, it's only her second day, yesterday the pool was closed, and several of the other teachers weren't dressed either - that's always the way of it, some of us in the water, some of us by the edge of the pool. She sat under an awning in the grass, with not a single child anywhere near her, the entire time, because she didn't have a hat on and didn't want to get burned. And yes, it was very hot today, but it's called preparedness, people. If you have a job where you're told you're going to be spending a significant portion of your time outside, then dress for being outside.
This afternoon I encountered her again in the gym. She didn't like the way I was setting things up and gave me the 'whatever, do it how you want' attitude, and then continued to get angry and protest when I did just that. I understood why she wanted things the way she had them, but it wasn't going to work with the group of kids we had. I'm sorry, but I know the kids we're working with and what's going to happen if A or B. So get over the fact that you're older than me; in this situation, that really doesn't mean a thing.
Maybe she'll piss me off less tomorrow. One can only hope.
I should go eat something. I'm hungry. But it's easier to just sit here feeling hungry than it is to actually move all the way (four steps) into the kitchen to deal with cooking (to blasted hot) something to eat.

Date: 2006-08-02 07:57 am (UTC)I find it's the same with being tired. Sure I get tired, but I'm too tired to go through all the motions of going to bed.

Date: 2006-08-02 01:44 pm (UTC)The same thing happens to me, with the being too tired to go to bed thing. It's the computer's fault. I used to read in bed and just turn the light out when I got too tired. Now I sit at the computer, and the whole process of going to bed becomes more work.

Date: 2006-08-02 02:37 pm (UTC)My sympathies about cooking. My mainstay of lentil soup is just not a good choice for this weather. So I've been eating ice cream for dinner! (Now there's a not-so-good-for-one's health adaptation to the heat!) :)

Date: 2006-08-02 05:21 pm (UTC)Mmm, ice cream. Now I want ice cream for supper. I had a brief moment of hope when I thought we (fcg) were going to Max and Erma's for supper but now it appears that we'll be going to Lu Lu's Yum Wok instead. I don't dislike Lu Lu's, but sometimes I'm just not in the mood for Asian food.
