Sep. 29th, 2004 09:07 pmWow! Lost is really shaping up to be a good show!
Okay, let me get this out of my system right off the bat. OMG! What a wonderful way to start this ep. Charlie all strung out on the airplane, fidgeting and freaking out. For some reason, I'm just fascinated by the remnants of black nail polish on his fingers. I immediately thought of
shirebound's withdrawal ponderings last week. I hope someone's got the blankie and the cuddles, cause he's gonna need them when his drugs run out. And oooh, the look on his face after Kate tells him she doesn't think he's a coward.
I'm dying to know what 'it' is. That thing with the 'gargantuan quality' as Charlie puts it. There's a camp that believes it's mechanical in nature because it didn't eat the pilot, but that doesn't necessarily follow. There are animals that will kill for sport and not eat their prey. I'm wondering how long this particular mystery will remain before TPTB reveal the monster. I hope I don't feel let down by the answers. Sometimes the mystery is better than the solution.
For instance, what are polar bears doing on this island? I'm sure the answer is simple, like another plane crash, this one transporting zoo animals, or some such. That way they could have all sorts of out of place animals roaming the jungle. But the mystery of it all, polar bears emerging unexpectedly from the jungle, is what's so fascinating about the show.
I think I'm going to get tired of Boone and Shannon's squabbling very quickly. Some glimpses of reality seem to be setting in with that girlie and she's already coming unglued. It will be interesting to see if she crumbles or pulls herself together.
I loved the interaction between Walt and Locke. It started out fairly normal and then got pretty creepy. I want to know what Locke's story is. He seems very cool in some ways, all that jabber about ancient Mesopotamia and Backgammon. But he seems out of sync with everyone and everything around him. I didn't find the orange peel incident creepy, per se. It seemed sad, as though he was trying to be silly and cheer Kate up, but it didn't work. It just came out weird, instead. And poor, poor Walt. As Locke said, he's having a bad month. How many ten year olds have to deal with their mother dying and then getting in a plane crash and being stranded on a deserted island?
There are just so many things I want to know about what's going on, and that's going to keep bringing me back to this show, every bit as much as my love of the Monaghan. What did Kate do to get (I'm assuming) extradited from Australia? What is with that frellnik, Sawyer? How is Hurley going to respond to learning that Sayid fought on the Iraqi side during the Gulf War? Is Shrapnel Guy (the sky marshall?) going to survive? How is Jack going to respond when he finds out that Kate is the prisoner? Inquiring minds want to know.
It's a beautiful location, isn't it? I could watch the show just for the scenery.
