Manly men doing manly things*
Sep. 7th, 2006 09:15 pmApparently there's a Steelers game today. Apparently it's a big deal. Big enough that the FCG cancelled (at least in part because of the game). Which is a shame since tonight was pretty much the last time I could make it out until Thanksgiving or maybe mid-December. Ah well, full-time work + full-time grad school = no social life. Luckily I ran into
pumpkinescobar on campus and found out there was no gathering before I waited around forty-five minutes to go to Phantom of the Attic.
I've met a couple of people in my classes who are into comics and such which has allowed me to indulge in at least a few minutes of geekiness a couple of times a week. *grin*
Still no luck getting the books I need; acquiring books has turned into a much greater hassle than I expected. Between there being many more students enrolled than they expected, books on back order, and books in limited circulation, it's verging on a nightmare. It was okay last week because everything was starting out slow, but now it's getting to the point where I'm going to have a serious reading debt to pay when the books do finally arrive. *pout*
It's funny how perspectives change. After a week of having to get up before the sun in order to get to work and having classes and stuff afterwards, it feels almost like a Friday night, just because I don't have to be at work until ten tomorrow and there are no classes afterwards.
My neighborhood had no DSL service again this afternoon, for at least several hours. I wonder where the problem lies, whether with faulty lines or equipment in the neighborhood, or some sort of technical problem in the offices, and why it happens so frequently in this one neighborhood. This is at least the third or fourth time since the middle of June that my little neighborhood has had no service. Weird.
*Subject heading taken from some sort of outdoorsman show that used to be on PBS, the promos of which always ended with the tag, 'manly men doing manly things'. I used to laugh every single time I saw a commercial for the show. It seems no less funny now.
