John dreams about Teer sometimes.
Sometimes he dreams of her face, glowing as she is subsumed by the energy of ascension and he wakes with a shiver, feeling the chill of unwanted possibility, the knowledge that no matter how much he doesn't want it now, it could happen to him some day.
Sometimes he dreams that she and all the others ascend and leave him alone in the sanctuary, and that Elizabeth and Rodney and the others fail to ever come for him. When he has this dream, he wakes and goes for a run, takes a shower, and doesn't check to make sure the others are still there, asleep in their rooms.
Sometimes he dreams about the last night, the one they spent together, and he wakes hard and aching, with an ache that's purely physical, one he can take care of or ignore as he chooses before rolling over and going back to sleep.
Sometimes he dreams that he begs Teer to stay, to leave the sanctuary and return to Atlantis with him, and when he has this dream he wakes in fear that it is true and relief to find that it is not.
The last time he dreams of Teer, she asks him to come with her and he says no. He watches her ascend and then he turns to his friends and leads them out of the sanctuary and back to Atlantis. He wakes from this dream with a knowledge that he cannot put into words, can barely acknowledge even to himself, but in the morning he goes to the mess for breakfast and he sees his friends; he lets go of those six months that never happened and knows, bone deep where words aren’t necessary, that he is home.
