Happy birthday, snonsumr!

Yesterday, I spent the afternoon/evening at eve11's new place, hanging out with her and D, snonsumr and uisceboo. She had a very yummy pork roast waiting for us in the crock pot, we made cookies (they were a gift from one of the parents at work - dry ingredients all mixed together in a jar with directions for how to make them) which came out sorta-kinda edible, but I don't recommend the recipe for future use. We watched hockey (Sabres won, as did the Maple Leafs) and talked all evening. Fun, fun, fun!

It was a late night and a long drive, so eve11 brought me home this morning, where I found, much to my dismay, that the cats were not thrilled with my overnight absence. Not thrilled at all. No permanent damage to furniture, but poop and puke scattered liberally about the apartment. So my plan of feeding them and immediately crawling back into bed (it was before 7 am) was derailed a bit.

Still, I managed a couple extra hours of sleep before heading into Oakland to buy books for this semester. I think I got off lucky this time around. Not quite as many required books and some of them look like interesting reading. I still ended up paying way more than I think is really necessary, esp for the one book that costs $132 and is a fairly small (hardbound) book that is no way worth such an absurd price. Still. I have all the books and I intend to actually do the readings this semester.

So, back to work tomorrow, back to school on Thursday. I've enjoyed my break but I'm ready to get back into the thick of things. *nods decisively*

I'm sorry to hear about the cats' misbehavior! I hope that your day of fun with friends was worth it.

Good luck tomorrow with back-to-work time and then back-to-school time on Thurs. At least it will be a short week for both!

Interestingly, my kitties are uninspired by catnip, so I don't bother to buy it for them, but they definitely got my cold shoulder when I got home and found messes waiting for me. It was amusingly deliberate, however, because neither of them ever poops out of the litter box. Yeah, they don't have to talk to the get the message across, lol.

that is the trouble with books: too damned expensive. I hate that I make text book decisions based on expense but I can't see $100 plus dollars for a book

Luckily there was only one super-expensive book, and it was the only required book for that course, so in all, I spent less on that course than some of the others, but still, it's just too much for book I got.

Sorry to hear about the cats.

I hate buying textbooks. They always cost so much and no matter what I tell myself there are so many that i never even open and which the school only buys back for $2 (if they buy it back at all) even though they sold the thing to me for $50 or more which makes me bitter.

When I was an undergrad, a million years ago, I was upset if my books cost more than two hundred dollars a semester. I would love my books to cost that much now, lol.

I would love for my books to only cost that much as well, but I was referring to only a single book. My books cost approximately 200 to 300 dollars a quarter as well :)

One of the downsides of school, I suppose. The publishers know they have a captive audience so they can charge almost as much as they'd like, with little restriction, as far as I can tell.

It's amazing how much some books cost. I guess they figger if you need it they can name their price. I'm glad that you were able to take the big ticket books in stride - don't know if I could have. Good luck with the semester!

Well, it's not like I have much of a choice. I got away with not doing all the readings last semester but I don't think that will work this time around. I'm pretty sure if I want to survive I'd better at least stay pretty caught up on the required readings. If I tried to get all the recommended readings in as well, I'd never have time to eat, sleep or shower. It would be bad, lol.
