Oct. 20th, 2004 09:47 pmI am going to start volunteering at one of the branches of the local library, and I had an interview/meeting with a woman this morning to discuss what positions are available, how suitable I would be, etc. My appointment was at 9:30 this morning, so I needed to leave the house at 8:55 in order to catch the bus. Set my alarm for 7:15 and went to bed (after watching Peacekeeper Wars again - yes, it's that good).
Woke up at 8:45. Ouch! That is just not the way I like to start my day. Somehow or other I managed to reach the bus stop at pretty much exactly the same time as the bus, so it was all good. My instructions were to go to the back security entrance (the library was still closed) and the woman would meet me there. Well, the security guard told me to go inside, up the stairs to the security desk and the person there would let the woman I was meeting know I had arrived. So I went inside and up the stairs. There was no one at the little security station, but there was a woman at the information desk right inside the library, so I told them what I needed, they had me take a seat and wait. I waited until 9:45, when the woman finally showed up. She had been waiting for me, outside, for fifteen minutes, lol. We spent about five minutes mutually apologizing before getting down to business.
I still don't know what I'll be doing or when I'll start doing it, but I'm one step closer, at any rate. I filled out the online application probably the beginning of September and it's taken this long just to get an interview.
On to Lost. Man, this show just keeps getting better! I loved, loved, loved tonight's episode. I just wanted to hold Jack and cuddle him and make him all better. People can get so messed up by their families. Jack's dad seems to have a done a number on him, and Jack hasn't dealt with all of those dangling issues yet, I'm sure.
Okay, the baby dolls in the pool scene. Did anyone else think of the Dead Marshes when they saw that? It was a little on the creepy side, lol. As was the empty coffin. I know the TV Guide said something about the possibility that Jack's dad isn't really dead, but I don't think that's the issue. I think most likely his body was stolen back in Sydney -- either black market organs, or the airline took the body out, in order to get around not being allowed to have a body on the plane without the proper documentation.
I like Locke more every week. I loved his rather mystical exploration of Jack's hallucinations. "You can't be a leader until you know where you're going." Not the most original line ever, but it was exactly what Jack needed to hear. Jack was in a really bad place for most of this episode. It's never a good sign when the hero starts laughing maniacially at inappropriate moments (reminded me just a bit of Crichton in season two of Farscape). Tortured heroes are so appealing, aren't they?
My Lost TV Guide arrived today and I loved the article (well, except for the spoilery part, which I didn't read). I was amused (and, I must admit, relieved) at the bit that said, as long as Dom keeps showing up for work, Charlie is never gonna get killed. Dom is just too popular for them to be willing to mess with things, lol. I'm not going to put total trust into that, though. I'm guessing he'll survive this season, but you never know when they might decide that Charlie's storyline has gone as far as it can go.

Date: 2004-10-20 11:38 pm (UTC)Now on to Lost!
I thought the dolls were freaky too. Especially when he saw the first one; that was really freaky. It did kind of remind me of the dead person Frodo sees in the Dead Marshes.
I agree with you about Locke as well. I really like him now that I know his back story.

Date: 2004-10-21 08:40 am (UTC)Isn't Locke getting cooler every episode???
I can't see him killing off Charlie! He needs to kick his drug habit, and get with Claire! I think most Lost fans are LotR fans, and they gave the show a chance b/c Dom is on it. That was my main reason for following it, though I think I'd watch it even if he hadn't been casted. But I hope he doesn't get kicked off the show!

Date: 2004-10-21 05:33 pm (UTC)So you've paired Charlie and Claire? It could be interesting. I'm waiting to see how she does with the birthing of that baby when the time comes. Jack is a doctor, but not an obstetrician so baby birthing is not his speciality. I can't wait to see the episode where Charlie's inevitable withdrawal happens. I'm guessing it will be that Nov. 3 episode. *rubs hands in gleeful anticipation of all the h/c*
I have to admit that honestly, the original reason I followed the show is because of Dom - and I was pretty dubious about the concept but decided to give it a shot anyway - but after I saw the first half of the pilot, at Comic Con this summer, I was sold. And now, although I do love Charlie, I'm not sure he's actually my favorite character. So far, he's mostly been comic relief. I'm hoping that will change and the part will get a bit meatier when he has to really start dealing with his drug addiction.
