Work is closed today - first time in probably about five years that they completely closed due to bad weather.

Even Pitt cancelled all morning classes. Not quite as historic a move as closing would have been, but still pretty surprising.

So, Valentine's Day and a snow day, all in one. *g* I hope you all have a lovely day, snuggled up with sweethearts, friends, yummy chocolate, or whatever makes you happy.

My job had a 2 hour delay, but after that hour spent cleaning the car I called out...and then got a call from my boss letting me know that the whole department had called out, which AWESOME.

I'm sure Penn State has a 2 hour delay of some sort and tomorrow the campus will be clogged with people on crutches.

I gave passing thought to going onto campus anyway to get some work done. That thought lingered for nearly one whole second before I decided to stay at home and goof off instead.

Enjoy your day. :D

*hugs back*

We've been amazingly lucky so far, as this is the first real snowfall we've had and it's already the middle of February.

My work closed too! I couldn't believe it! I have worked there for nearly five years and we have NEVER been closed for the entire day. We've shut down early a couple of times but never have we been completely closed for an entire day. I am thrilled outta my tiny mind! Enjoy your day off!

The last time Carriage House closed was probably 2002. I remember because I was watching that new(ish) version of The Music Man, with Matthew Broderick, on Sunday evening and got the call that work was closed the next day. Twice in one decade - pretty momentous, lol.

Enjoy your day off!

You know there is a rule that if you get a snow day on Valentine's Day, you have to write smoopy SGA stories all day, right??

Hm, smoopy SGA fic, eh? I'll have to see what I can come up with. ;)

That (points to icon) is one of my favorite icons! I love seeing JF flailing erm, dancing so enthusiastically. :D And, quite possibly, it's inspired some sort of fic, most likely painful to behold, but possibly entertaining at the same time.

*heads off to fire up the old MS Word*

That would totally make my day!

::plays icon again just in case!!:

Hey! I screwed up the icon thingy. Trying again!

Well, it hijacked my brain for most of the afternoon, but I've written SGA fic of the only very slightly smoopy nature. (http://auntiemeesh.livejournal.com/273249.html#cutid1)

hmmm... I drove an hour to work this morning. I called my supervisor & asked if we were open & he said, "of course. why wouldn't we be open?".

I guess this is my curse for serving the public. ;-)

Enjoy your day off.

I hope you don't have any trouble with the roads, today. I can't imagine they're in any better shape than they were yesterday.

I can only dream of a snow day ... I'm pretty sure the snow is going to have to at least reach the ground before such a thing would happen, and that seems unlikely. But, I hope you enjoy yours! Thanks for the good wishes. Happy Sweetheart-wannabe-less Valentines Day to you! *hugs*

I'm just grateful I have power. The tree branches are all ice-laden and bowed down, but luckily *knock on wood* so far at least, I haven't had any power troubles.

Goodness if my job closed for a day.. i would be floored. But since I work in the newspaper biz, news doesn't stop, and neither do we. *headdesk* Enjoy your snowy Valentines! We had freezing rain dumped over my part of Central Texas, and had ice on the car... ooohhh aaaahhhh... miss living back east so much. *sigh*

All the old-timers at work (any of us who've been there more than a year or so) have gleefully been telling the newbies to suck it up, that we won't close no matter what. Looks like we were wrong. Not that I'm complaining or anything. :D

Freezing rain can be much more difficult to deal with than snow. That's why it's so bad here - we had a couple of hours of freezing rain in the middle of the storm and now everything is ice-coated as well as buried in snow.

I knew there had to be an occasional perk to living in a place that actually experiences winter - every great now and again I get to stay home in the middle of the week, guilt free! Just when I was really thinking I needed a mini vacation, too. :D

There is chocolate in the lunchroom, and heart-shaped cookies in my department. So work is not particularly horrible today. :) Enjoy your Valentine's snow day.

Here it never snows so much that whole companies just close for the day. However, the Dutch Railways always manage to if not completely shut down, make a mess of the train schedules. But that also happens when there's a storm, or leaves on the train tracks :-P

I hope you enjoyed your day off!

I think it's a transportation thing. Here we've got a lot of people (like me) who live 30 or so miles (approx. 50K) from the city with no public transportation options, so we're stuck driving. Get enough of us working for a company and well, if the plows don't go through your neighborhood, you're kinda stuck. You guys have a great train system-- and do people bike as much in the winter as they do in the summer?

That, and even if it snows here, it''s highly unlikely that it's more than a couple of centimetres :-)

do people bike as much in the winter as they do in the summer?
Well, pretty much. Cycling just for pleasure isn't done so much in winter, unless it's an exceptionally lovely day, but a lot of people use their bike to go to work (or the train station), to go to shops and most secondary school children have to go to school by bike (we don't have school buses here and only a small number of kids uses public transport to go to school).
