I actually made it out with the FCG last night, for the first time in probably a month. We went to Hunan Kitchen, where I got my new usual - Black Pepper Steak, so yummy. It was a small group, [livejournal.com profile] mamoulian, [livejournal.com profile] rabbitchild, [livejournal.com profile] cajun, [livejournal.com profile] eve11 and myself. The guys seemed less filthy than usual, leaving [livejournal.com profile] eve11 and I to pick up the slack. I wasn't really in top form but did manage to get a few shots in before falling into a near-comatose state. I also bought comics this time - Ultimate Spiderman Vol. 9, which I think am saving as a special treat for Spring Break.

I watched "Where the Heart Is" last night, compliments of Netflix. It was better than I expected it to be, pretty fun for what it was. I almost always like Dabney Coleman movies, Uma Thurman was a riot with her ever shifting accent and complete inability to act (how did she get famous?) and David Hewlett was just YOUNG and SKINNY. Very cute with his computer fixation and all, but I missed all the energy that he puts into his characters now. There were hints of it, but that's all that ever showed. Plus, I really liked the tromp l'oeil paintings. So, even though it's a cheesy late 80s movie, I may have to buy it eventually.

Glad to hear you had a fun and filthyish night out, and then an enjoyable enough night in with a cheesy movie! I'm going to have to look that one up on Netflix, because it is not ringing any bells at all - and the 80's was the one decade when I did see a fair number of first run movies. I am and ever have been so pathetic when it comes to keeping up with pop culture!

It came out in 1990 or 91, but it's still close enough to the eighties to have more of a late eighties than a nineties feel. The plot of the movie is that Dabney Coleman, who is a demolitions expert who has bought up a bunch of old buildings and is knocking them down to make way for a new highrise, is foiled when one of the old buildings gets historic landmark status.

At the same time, his oldest daughter has just graduated from art school, his middle daughter is working on some artsy-fartsy degree and his youngest son has dropped out of Harvard Business to try to develop his own computer game. The three kids have been totally spoiled all their lives and the dad's plan to get them out of the house and living independently is to dump them all in this 'historic landmark' that he's stuck with and tell them they're on their own. What follows is pretty funny.

It sounds promising. I may have to check it out!

Glad to hear you had a good time.

Just curious, but what is the guy in your icon doing?

The icon is a scene from Stargate Atlantis. The guy is holding a ZPM, which is a powerful and elusive battery (sort of, more like a nuclear powerplant that you can hold in your hands). In context, nothing suggestive or off about the scene at all, but Rodney (the guy) was very happy to get his hands on that ZPM. :D

Young and skinny, plus there's a couple of scenes where he's nearly naked.
