So, I really didn't like Talion at all, but the last three episodes were all much better. Very light on the annoyingly bad acting of Beau Bridges and much heavier on the team, which is all to the good. Family Ties (18) was just fun, with Vala forced to deal with her dysfunctional family - surprise, surprise, aliens have dysfunctional families, too. I love the girl-bonding between Vala and Sam. I've seen a number of complaints that season ten was too focused on Vala and not enough on Mitchell, but you know what? I think Vala's a much more interesting character, and the stories they've told have been good ones. Speaking of Vala, episode nineteen was good as well. Claudia Black has done such a wonderful job, once again, of taking a character that could be very one dimensional and show the growth arc that character goes through, the pain of trying to change and then having to confront that change, and being doubted by everyone. Vala's pain at the perceived betrayal of SG-1 after all the effort she's put into making herself a true member of the team was really shown well - not overdone but not kept too hidden, either. On to Unending, the end of Stargate as series television. The Stargate universe loves to play with time almost as much as Star Trek did, so there wasn't anything terribly unique about this episode. But it was fun to see how SG-1 would handle such a situation, how each of them dealt with their frustration/boredom/depression over being stuck in a time dilation field with nothing to do for fifty years. I was a little bit surprised that all of them survived that long (except for Landry and good lord was that a bad aging job). I loved Mitchell, running and running and running and then having his hissy fit. I think it would have been hardest for him because he didn't have the science to keep him going, but it seemed a bit one-dimensional. Fifty years and Sam was the only one that was shown learning a new skill. Daniel spent fifty years studying the database, Mitchell spent fifty years running and sparring with Teal'c, etc. The ending was a nice wrap-up, though. Life goes on, they keep going through the gate and facing whatever is on the other side. Now I'm actually excited about the movies, which I wasn't much at all, before.
