One of these days, my swollen little finger is going to feel better. I don't know when, though. It's still swollen. After twelve days. That can't be good, but it hasn't gotten any worse, so I don't think it's actually infected. If I was smart, I would take a week off the computer and see if that helps, seeing as typing makes it hurt. Apparently I'm just stupid cause I can't see that happening.
Oh my God! I LOVED this week's episode of Lost. Okay, maybe it means I'm a bad person, but I love that they actually tortured Sawyer. Not that I wanted Sawyer hurt, just that it shows they really are willing to take some risks. This is a program that airs at 8:00 at night. And they showed an Iraqi torturing an American, with another American's approval, and there is no clear cut good guy or bad guy in this scenario. It's a pretty strong statement, if you ask me.
Best line of the episode.
Kate: "What? You can't be serious."
Sawyer: "Baby, I am tied to a tree in a Jungle of Mystery. I just got tortured by a damn spinal surgeon and a genu-ine Iraqi! 'Course I'm serious."
I've been really curious about Sawyer and his letter since the beginning. His flashbacks explain so much about his personality. I love that the second he saw the kid, he took off. Nope, he ain't gonna be that person. He may be a messed up grifter, but he's got a line that he draws, and he sticks to it without hesitation. He's got that sort of rakish charm that would play well as the hero of an underworld society. You know the type, they are criminals, but they are ones who are written as the hero despite (or because of) their criminal status. I feel the plot bunnies bouncing around inside my skull.
I was surprised that Jack was willing to go along with Sayid's plan. Although I suppose it's not all that surprising in a way. Aside from his disbelief that anyone would withhold medicine that could save a life, he and Sawyer are vying to be alpha male. Neither of them particularly wants to be the one responsible for everyone (although Jack is doing a good job despite reluctance) but they both want to win Kate. And Kate chose to stay on the beach, where, coincidentally, Sawyer is and Jack isn't. So Jack is on edge anyway. Of course, he's never gonna win Kate by torturing Sawyer. She's pretty disgusted by the whole thing. But I think it did make it easier for Jack to be swayed.
And on to Charlie. I'm pretty disappointed in the lack of follow through here. Last episode, he's sick as a dog as he fights his way through withdrawal. This is supposed to be the next day, right? He's fine? Happy as a clam? WTF! Now, I don't know how the symptoms of physical withdrawal take to run their course, but one day? That's not much. Maybe we'll see more of his effort to deal with his suddenly drug free life in other episodes. After all, one does not get over a drug addiction in forty-eight hours.
Having said that, was he not the cutest thing ever with that 'peanut butter'? (
pipspebble, I have a good idea what was going through your head there.) He and Claire make a great pairing, and it's such a welcome change from him mooning over Kate. And it was good that Claire accepted the 'peanut butter' as such and went with him to the caves. I think it gives Charlie a purpose, taking care of her, and they both seem to enjoy it. Maybe that's what the whole PB thing is all about. A way for him to feel useful and have something to do, so that he isn't just sitting around being miserable.
You know, Locke was awfully eager to place the blame for Sayid's attack at Sawyer's doorstep. I don't think for a minute that Locke had anything to do with it, but it just seemed odd.
Next week is Sayid's week. You know, was very efficient at the torturing business, but it's good to see that he really doesn't want to be that guy anymore. I give him a lot of credit for leaving rather than allowing himself to stay and continue to have this antagonistic relationship with Sawyer. I also think we get to meet the French woman, and learn a little more about that whole mystery. Can't wait.
Have I said yet how much I LOVE this show? Because I absolutely love this show.

Date: 2004-11-10 08:30 pm (UTC)It's funnier than you think because I have this nickname - Peanut Butter - I kid you not. So Charlie and the peanut butter and the black fingernail disappearing into that mouth of his ... aye, aye, aye!!! STOP! Do NOT make me think such things!! ;-)
I adored this ep as well, and was torn between watching the torture scene or hiding my eyes, but I did watch and was surprised at the way it was handled, with just the right touch of clues and leaving the rest to imagination. It wore me out, though. I felt like I'd been kicked in the gut afterwards.
And Sawyer! WHAT a backstory! It was absolutely *wrenching* and quite uncomfortable to watch. This show continues to amaze me with the backstory they come up with. I knew there had to be some pretty heavy duty *stuff* going on for Sawyer to be as big an ass as he was.
Sayid! Oh, oh, OH! Next week is going to be very interesting, indeed.
And Hurley! "Dude. That was amazing. Like a --- Jedi moment!" My son and I just *howled* over that! And what a tension breaker in the midst of all that nerve frazzling drama!
Oh, I love this show, too. And I haven't loved a t.v. show in a long, long time. Not since Farscape went off the air. And that speaks volumes for the quality of Lost, because I don't waste my time on crap. There's way too much lovely stuff to read in Hobbitsville. :-)
Warning - more blathering ahead!

Lol...I wanna go watch it again!

It's an odd thing. I've always liked books and stories where the hero gets tortured (that whole h/c thing, I suppose) but I've very rarely if ever actually seen the titular hero do the torturing. It's one of those things that when the hero threatens torture, the victim universally gives in immediately so that the hero doesn't actually have to get his hands dirty or do anything that might make him seem less heroic. I think that's why I liked this scene so much. Jack and Sayid have both been portrayed as heroic all along, and now we get to see that they are human, and when things get sticky, they are willing to do (or at least condone in Jack's case) things that just aren't done in the normal course of events. I bet Jack has nightmares, though, about allowing it to happen. And Sayid is clearly tortured over having gone down that route once again.
And I haven't loved a t.v. show in a long, long time. Not since Farscape went off the air.
I feel exactly the same. Since Farscape went off, there hasn't been anything that captured my attention this way. I'm really enjoying having this one show that I love so much.
