Grr! I have now tried to import these songs into my iTunes library about three different times, three different ways. Nothing frickin works. I mean, if 'import song' doesn't work, what will? *bangs head against brick wall, gets better results*

Try using "Add File To Library." That's what I use to put all of my songs into iTunes.

Oh, and you can also do entire folders by using "Add Folder To Library."

Well, that was a method I hadn't tried yet, but it still didn't work. All the songs are listed in my library (importing did that much good, anyway), but they'll only play if the cd's in the drive.

I would delete them out of iTunes and re-add them with the option I mentioned above. If it's not saving them to the Library, then it isn't putting them on your hard drive. FWIW, if you don't want to take up the hard drive space, you can go ahead and update your iPod with the disk in the drive without adding it to your hard drive. It's just that iTunes won't play it. But once it's on your iPod, it's there unless you clear it out or resynch specifically to match exactly what is in iTunes.

It sounds like a setting is off, somewhere. Remember, you can always Reset Settings when you synch - it clears up a lot of problems.
