My alcohol tolerance is for shit these days. One apple martini later and I'm buzzing like a bee.

Today was a day and a half. Field trip with the young'uns, once again on the schoolbus with no seat belts, out on the highway with a driver who's a little reckless and one child who is screaming and refusing to sit on his seat (first standing and then bouncing angrily). We finally had to call his mom to meet us at our destination and take him home because we couldn't have him on the bus again.

The best part of the work day was creek walking. Well, creek standing, at any rate - the kids don't do wet rocks well, so we didn't walk far. But the water was lovely and cool and wet, which felt wonderful (the high today was something like 92 F with high humidity).

Sadly, I broke my watch - it got caught on something and the band broke. This is the third watch I've gone through this year, and I absolutely refuse to buy another one any time soon, so I guess I'll just have to use it broken.

Today was the orientation day for new SIS students at Pitt, and I had volunteered to sit at the SAA table during the meet and greet after orientation. We had a good group of people sitting at table and the hour went by really quickly. Afterwards, I couldn't face the thought of sitting in my apartment another Friday evening feeling lonely and pathetic, so I grabbed one of the girls and we went out. It was a wild night of extravagant shopping (I bought season two of Gilmore Girls and season one of Smallville, which was on sale for cheap at BestBuy, and then a quick trip to Petco) and then martinis at Gullifty's. Mm, apple martini, so very yummy. Accompanied by fangirling of the highest dimension - D just watched season two of Doctor Who, so there was much squeeing going on.

Now I'm going to watch Gilmore Girls while I come down off my Martini high. I should do sewing, but I don't think that's going to happen. It's like a 110 degrees in here - way too hot to be burdened with all that fabric.

I looked at the ten day forecast and saw that by next weekend it's supposed to be nice and cool here again. Of course, I'll be in Atlanta, where it will be super hot. Good thing I have no plans to leave the convention hotel, lol.

You have a sewing machine so the sewing won't take you very long. Most of it is long, very simple seams that will take about thirty seconds by machine.

What creek did you and the kids go standing in? I hope that your heat (and ours) breaks soon. I think there may be a good chance that it will rain today, because I have a whole load of laundry on the wash line at home, and I am at work. If that doesn't do it, nothing will!

We went to Squaw Valley, which is north of the city off I 28. It's an annual summer trip. The creek gets harder to access every year. It's got steep banks that are a good eight feet high where we get in, and the 'path' is just a muddy/rocky slope that is at a slightly shallower angle than the rest of the walls (which are vertical and held in place with chicken wire). We form a human chain of adults in order to ease the kids down to the water, and then have to do the same to get them back up to the top again. It's exciting for the kids, they really feel like they're getting an adventure.
