So here I am, hanging out at [livejournal.com profile] eve11's casa, doing costuming stuff. We made the negative molds for the cat faces (there was a bit of concern that the positive and negative molds would fuse together permanently, resulting in a solid, ten pound brick perfect for holding doors open but not so much for making masks with - this turned out to be fruitless worrying on our parts as the two parts separated with only a small amount of prying). Now we've got the latex setting up in the negative molds and we're trying to figure out how the heck those nuns got their hats to look like that.

[livejournal.com profile] eve11 is quite the photo-documentarist, so you can see pics here. And here is a picture of Novice Hame in her silly, inconvenient head piece.

It will be amazing if we get everything done in the next three days. I'm not sure how it went from months away to later this week!

We're going to give it a try and see what it comes out like. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

So talented you two are! After looking at the pictures I think I finally grasp just why you don't want to make a dog-face mask to go over the cat-face mask to go over the your-own-face mask! That would be way too much work!

It would make me cry to even think about the logistics of making a mask to go over the mask, lol.

The first photo is me smoothing vaseline on the old mold (the one of my face, that has the clay model of the cat face on it) so the clay in the reverse mold of the cat face won't meld permanently with the clay of the original mold.

Okay, I didn't mean to post that yet. 2 and 3 are what the cat face molds look like as we prepare to pour Ultra Cal (a plaster of paris-like substance) over them. 4 is me building the enclosure around my cat face in order to pour the ultra cal. 5 is my mask in the enclosure, 6 is the two enclosures, sealed off so that they don't get dusty while we go upstairs to eat. 7 and 8 are [livejournal.com profile] eve11 pouring the Ultra Cal over her mold and 9 is her mold all filled with the Ultra Cal (which wil make the reverse mold of the cat face). 10, 11, and 12 are me pouring Ultra Cal on my mold (you have to pour slowly and make sure you get it into all the small spaces so the reverse mold comes out right. 13 is Eve's original mold being pulled out of the reverse mold, and 14 is the reverse mold. 15 and 16 are me deconstructing my enclosure, 17-21 are me prying the two molds apart, 22 is my reverse mold, and 23 is just random me, picking the modeling clay off my face mold.

Wow, you sure have been busy! That head piece looks rather difficult to make. Maybe starch or sugar water?

btw, Anso says hi :-)
