[livejournal.com profile] danachan asked for anything with Merry and Pippin in it. I'm bad with drabbles. Counting words gives me a headache. So this is somewhere between a drabble and a half, and a double drabble. It's also a little different than anything previously, in that it's implied slash. Set the night before the four hobbits leave Crickhollow.

Merry stood frozen in the doorway. His cousin was curled up on the sofa, staring, half-asleep, into space. The lamplight flickered over Pippin’s features, making him look much younger than his twenty-eight years. Far too young to be allowed to come on this oh-so-dangerous journey of theirs. Making up his mind, he entered the room and approached his cousin.

Pippin looked up as Merry approached, and the older cousin caught his breath. There was a look in Pippin’s eyes such as Merry had never seen before. A look that said here was no mere tweenager, to be sent home now the game had turned deadly serious. A look that demanded respect without even knowing it. Undone entirely by that look, and knowing he might regret this for the rest of his life, Merry swallowed the words he’d been about to say. Instead he held out his hand.

“Come to bed, love. We’ve an early morning tomorrow.”

Eyes softening, Pippin uncurled himself and stood, taking Merry’s hand. “Yes, I suppose we do, at that.”

Excuse me while I flail and squee loudly.

*fizzles into sparks and dust*

Oh! This is lovely. I'd pick at favourite bits, but then I'd be pasting the whole thing back at you, and that would make for a comment that really shouldn't have to be that long.

Merry! Pippin! *clutches at them* *explodes*

And did I mention that this is absolutely gorgeous? Because, you know, I wouldn't want to forgot so important as that. ♥ Thankyou. I love it.

Thanks! I think this is probably about as slashy as I'll ever get, but it was fun to write it from that slightly different perspective.

And until those last four words, it could have been a genfic. Who knew you had it in you? ;-)

Glad someone asked for this. I just love how Pippin stops Merry with a look when just before, it is Pippin's look that has Merry on a completely different course.

Oooh, Merry's got the bit in his teeth and then Pippin gives him that look and the whole angle changes, he veers right off track--gah. Fabulous! Fabulous as either genfic or slash. :-)

Thanks! It is admittedly only a very little bit slashy, but I was still a bit nervous about it. I'm glad it went over well. :)

See, now you've put your little toe over here on the dark side... it feels good, doesn't it? Yes, my precious, it does... *grin* there is no escaping the slash bunnies!

See, now I've promised to expand on this little drabble-plus for Dana's M/P wish on her wishlist. I have to decide if I'm going to try to make it slashier or just leave that as is and expand on some other part of it. Decisions, decisions. Would you be at all interested in betaing it for me when I get it done?

Hey there, I am so sorry! Yes, I got it, and I beta'd it (not much needed saying, it's excellent!) and then my computer crashed. So let me do it again this evening and send to you--is that okay?

I read this the other day and just wanted to say I absolutely loved it! I'm struggling with writing my own first slashy drabble attempts, and yours is wonderful :)

Thank you! I've promised to expand the scene for Dana and now I'm wondering what the hell I was thinking. I'm not sure I can do anything more than just that little bit, slash-wise. Especially as Dana writes such good slash and I don't want to give her crap in return.

Ah well, good luck with your own slashy drabble. I'm sure you'll create something wonderful, as you always do. :)
