Well, I was all set to spend yesterday alone. I really didn't mind as I was in the middle of a very long and very good hobbitfic. I had just made myself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and a cup of tomato soup for supper when the doorbell rang.
My housemate having gone away for the weekend and not expecting anyone, I was a little surprised. Going to the door, I looked out to see a friend from work standing on the porch. I opened the door and she bustled in. "I was at my sister's and there's a guy there. He's forty years old, he's single, he's the Green Party guy who lives with my Mom. He's all by himself and I said to myself that I couldn't pass this up. Pull yourself together quickly. You're coming with me."
This was around six in the evening, and I had planned to have an online chat with my family at 8, so I hesitated for a second, but then hurriedly threw on some decent clothes and put on some make-up. Let's face it. A single guy and Thanksgiving dinner, or PB&J and family chat. No contest.
The guy was nice enough. Not my type, I don't think. He didn't seem to have much sense of fun. A bit boring. The dinner was very nice though. I felt bad, being thrust on this unsuspecting family at the very last minute, but they were very welcoming and there was plenty of food, so I guess I wasn't too much of an inconvenience. I like this friend's family. I've met some of them before and I always have a good time with them.
They even sent me home with leftovers! And I got home in time to catch most of the family chat, which was good as I was the one to organize it. We stayed online rather longer than we should have, maybe, playing twenty questions and getting very silly. Yahoo chat rooms have these 'emoticons' that aren't really what I would call emoticons, as they are phrases, instead. So we spent forever just using the random yahoo phrases. Wonderful things like "(username) screamed 'they killed Kenny'" At which point one of use was bound to type in 'those bastards!' even though it wasn't an emoticon response that was offered. Much fun was had by all, although I think my aunt, who arrived very late, was a bit confused by it all. By then some of us were well into our cups and not much sense was being made by anyone.
