Watched Bionic Woman, tonight. So far I seem to be batting 0 for 2 on the new show front. This one just left me cold. However, I was happy with both Bones and House, yesterday, so I'm doing well on the returning show front, at least.

I'm working my way through Smallville on dvd, and started season three tonight. Wow is it bad. Fun, but really, really bad. Clearly there's something wrong with me that I continue to watch this show.

I had to laugh at your assessment of Smallville: "fun, but really, really bad". I have to agree.

It's funny, the things that are really bad that I'll keep coming back to time and again, as opposed to shows like Heroes, that aren't even bad in the same sense, that just don't pull me in at all.

I hear ya. Season 5 of Smallville is in my Netflix queue now (starting at #162, so it'll be a while...but it's still there).

Yeah - that's about the time I stopped watching Smallville too. I watched Bionic Woman last night too - can't say I was immediately in love but it wasn't awful. I think I'm going to have to see another episode before I decide... for an opener though I think they could have done better.

I keep telling myself I should give up on Smallville - I don't like Tom Welling as Clark Kent, at all. The plots are ridiculous and the intercharacter tensions are absurd, and yet I keep coming back for more. *is weird*

I didn't like the Bionic Woman premiere, either. I don't think they ever solidly established what the great sorrow was about surviving a crash that would've left her with one remaining limb, or even dead. Her angst seemed misplaced and overdone to me.

There were a lot of things that weren't solidly established in that opener. Like, why she's such a bitch to her sister. I'm sure there were reasons in the writers' heads that they just didn't have the time to show, but that, combined with her fury against the doctors who saved her life, and her really quick (at least in my mind) shift to being willing to bury those people if she didn't like what they were doing. I think that ending was the thing I had the biggest problem with, her really aggressive, 'I have no scruples about using violence or even killing people who get in my way' attitude, which to me seemed to come completely out of the blue.

There was no continuity to her emotions at all and the sub plots weren't even partially explained, they were more like blips in the script. What was with the whole "no computers plugged into phone lines thing"? How Hackers can you get? The younger sister seemed angsty just to be angsty and the main character was just contrary to be contrary.

What bothered me the most though? Starbuck. First - I stopped watching BG... did it die or something? I didn't think she'd have time to do two bitchy female roles at once. But then her character here was pretty close to what she was doing with BG so it wasn't that big a jump for her. Frankly, if that's the direction they want to go, that Starbuck and the new girl will always be fighting, fine. But did the opening fight scene have to be an Electra/Matrix/generic superhero mix? Or can't fight choreographers come up with something else?

I stopped watching BSG halfway through season two, but from what I understand, Katee Sackhoff isn't with that show anymore. And oddly enough, she was only one of three BSG actors to show up in the pilot.

These re-envisionings of old shows almost never seem to go all that well, and this one, in my book, was a spectacular failure. It will be interesting to see what the ratings are for it, and what the network decides to do.
