My diploma arrived today. Yay! One more step in feeling like I really do have that MLIS degree.

Now if I could just put the thing to good use. To that end, I took another small babystep forward in the job search arena, by actually looking at some job listings. The CMU job posting webpage is down for servicing, I didn't even check Pitt, but I looked at a couple of other places and bookmarked a few jobs to check out more thoroughly. Top of the list at the moment is a job at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. It would be a huge pay raise, even with an increased cost of living. But it would mean moving to Alaska, and that is not exactly my dream home. I will probably apply, however, just to start getting a feel for what people want to see, how my resume stacks up, etc.

I took a ride in a Prius today. Fancy! No-key ignition is very cool, as is the display panel that shows the view out the back when the car is in reverse, exactly how much fuel comes from gas/battery, etc. And apparently the battery now comes with a 100,000 mile guarantee, so that's no longer such a concern. Not a car I'll be able to afford any time in the conceivable future, but pretty cool, nonetheless.

I never had any special feeling towards my undergraduate diploma, but this particular piece of paper is making me all kinds of happy. I think I may need to get a frame and display the thing. :D

I hope I find a place closer than Alaska, truth be told! But I need to break free of the awful 'I have a job no matter that it's crappy and not in my field anymore' inertia.

Yeah, I think [livejournal.com profile] lyda_pearl wanted to live in Alaska for a long time as well. Not me, man. Too much winter up there, not to mention being a million miles away from everyone I know.

Congratulations on getting your diploma and for dipping your toes into those terrifying job search waters! I hope you have lots of great job offers soon -- but I don't think I'm hoping for Alaska. It really is too far away from Mississippi!

Congratulations! Stare at and gaze upon and admire that diploma!

I rember the day my diploma came in the mail. I haded it to my mother -- she had cancer by then, and I wanted her to actually see that I finished, that I graduated. It was such a wonderful moment!
