Saturday morning free for all
Sep. 29th, 2007 10:03 amI'm not entirely sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing. Thor has finally lost that nasty tooth that's been causing him so much misery, which I would think is a good thing, except now he's probably got a heck of a sore spot in his mouth.
And we can lay this all at the feet of one small but feisty kitten. Mal is clearly feeling unstoppable this morning and wants to play with the big kids (who would really rather snooze peacefully in the sun) way more than he wants to play with his toys.
I was able to watch SGA this morning. I tend to not love the season openers. I really actually kind of hated the season three opener, and I didn't hate Adrift, so that's a step in the right direction. I'm not really sure how I felt about it, to be honest. Lots of flash and cool effects. I liked McKay doing what needed to be done regardless of Sheppard's need to be boss. And really, my understanding was that Sheppard was only the boss in military situations. In a case like this, it seems that command would fall more to McKay - the problem is technological, not military, and with Weir down for the count, that leaves McKay as the highest ranking civilian around. And just in First Strike, Sheppard tells whosit that he doesn't want to be the boss. And I don't think he really does, but he still doesn't always trust McKay to make the decision that's best for the entire city. And to be honest, the decision McKay made was not necessarily the right one, if you look at cold hard facts. It was certainly the only one that McKay could live with making, but is it one that Weir can live with?
I'll be glad when this current rush of OMG DOOM! PANIC! is over and the show gets back to storytelling. In that direction, they're setting up the Carter front quite nicely, I think. And I absolutely loved the little moment between Ronon and Elizabeth. Ronon has changed so much since he first came to Atlantis, really opened up and become a person again, after being nothing but a Runner for so long. I actually got a little teary-eyed when he choked up. *hearts Ronon* And actually, I kind of liked the tension between McKay and Sheppard. Because once all's said and done, their friendship is much stronger than it was before Trinity. Sheppard is pissed off and mightily freaked out (and trying like hell not to show it), which makes it hard for him to see past the tip of his own nose, but he recognizes a peace offering when it's thrown at his face, and he accepts it. And I love that McKay knows Sheppard well enough to know exactly how to get him to back down. 'We have to work together for the sake of the city' my ass. But it worked, it was enough to get Sheppard to dial back a bit. I'm not naive enough to think there won't be repercussions, but I don't think it's going to be as damaging as it would have been a year or two ago. And I want to see more of how that tension plays out.
