I got an interesting email from the Pitt library system today. Apparently they're charging me $225 in fines for a book that's not actually due back until Oct 31. Guess I know what I'm doing after work today.
Oh good lord. That's one of those fines wherein you just need to go to them, smack them upside the head and tell them what for. I mean really, who's going to pay $225 in fines? Even if they were legit (which they're not), replacing the whole damn textbook can't cost more than $150 or so.
The book is available through SAA for about $50. I think it's all a scam. They charge a ridiculous amount of money because they know half the time they're never going to actually get what they're asking. Especially in this case.
er, that'd be retroactive back to 1901, because their system still isn't y2k compliant, 7 yrs later...
"um sorry miss, this book was checked out by Dorian Gray, are you she?" 'well, no, I'm not, so why are you fining me?' "it seemed like a good idea at the time..."
