It may be Homecoming weekend. It's hard to keep track of these things, but it's about the right time of year for that, I think. Either that or it's the end of the world, the booming explody sounds could be either/or.

I'm going with Homecoming.

I checked the website and it's definitely homecoming. No mention of fireworks, but there always are, so I'm assuming that's what the big bang was all about.
