eve11's Halloween party was yesterday. We spent the day getting ready, setting up the house and getting our costumes put together (no pics, sorry). I also spent a couple of hours working on my pumpkins.

Here they are, a pair of mild mannered pumpkins, all innocent looking.


But wait! What's this? An angry mob chasing a helpless, harmless vampire. Who will save him?


Never fear, little vampire. Super Pumpkin and his faithful sidekick, Boy Gourd, are here to save you!


Yes, that's right. Our innocent little pumpkins are really two fearless super heroes.


Anyway, moving right along, there was a ton of really yummy food, including these cupcakes decorated to look like a cemetary.


The coffin table was home to all the snacky-type foods,


but there was some dead fierce competition for the good snacks.


In the other room, the witches had set up a home brewing station.


It was a little bit creepy. At one point during the evening a giant, green-glowing spider crept in through the window and took over the stereo.


It was a nice sized gathering, with only one person I hadn't met before, so it was really fun (no people pics in this post, sorry). After everyone arrived, we headed out back and up the hill.


We started the evening off with a bonfire.


When it died down a bit and everyone ran out of booze, we made the treacherous walk back down the hill (fire-blinded and in high heels, I still made it without falling - I consider it the achievement of the night) to go inside, find more booze and play Zombie Fluxx. I had never heard of Fluxx before, let alone the zombie version, and I'm a terrible coward when it comes to playing new and seemingly complex games with people I don't know well, but after watching the first round, I took a deep breath and dove in. It was a hoot. Or maybe a groan. Anyway, it was a lot of fun.

By then it was getting late and people needed to drive back into the city so the party pretty much broke up. This morning was for doing some clean-up and then coming home. I got some pictures of the local scenery, with mixed results. I have discovered the foliage setting on my camera, which I love, love, love. It really captures the colors so much better than the auto setting.

In other news, I acquired some bits and pieces of furniture this week, thank all the gods and little fishes. This inspired me to actually do some cleaning and rearranging. I spent a couple of hours this afternoon moving furniture around, trying to find the best way to make the little bit of furniture I have work to best effect. I'll let the current arrangement sit for a month or two, see how I like it and then adjust as needed (or if I get more furniture). One of the things I got is an old children's bookshelf. It's small, but it holds enough that I was able to get all the books that were unpacked and stacked in piles on the floor up and onto shelves, and I was able to unpack and shelve a few more, as well. This makes me absurdly happy, but I'll be even happier when I'm able to get more bookshelves/miscellaneous storage devices and unpack the rest of my stuff.

I also took on the task of bringing order to the unholy chaos that was my entertainment system. TV, dvd player, cable/internet/phone modem, computer cords were all in a big tangled pile in the corner of the living room where I had placed them temporarily when I first moved in. A little bit of finagling and I now have a slightly less unsightly pile of cords under the coffee table and stretching across the length of the room, but I also have things set up so that I can take my laptop into the bedroom and still have internet. Yay! Only thing I'm worried about is that the TV and dvd player are now sitting on a wobbly little coffee table instead of the chair and floor that they were on before, and I'm not entirely, 100% sure that the table won't fall over if Mal gets too excited and vigorous when jumping up (he's been pretty careful so far, but that won't last forever). I'm thinking it might not be a terrible idea to keep the tv on the floor when it's not being used.

Speaking of Mal, the poor kid was completely freaked out by all the moving and shaking I did today. He's deathly afraid of the vacuum cleaner and hid in the bathroom while I was vacuuming, and then didn't want to come out even when I was done. When he finally did venture out, the living room was all different and he got freaked out all over again. But he's happy now, because with the new arrangement, he can finally reach the mantel. He's up there right now, wreaking havoc and taking names. It may be a long night. *sigh*

Next task, for another weekend, is to bring order to the unbelievable chaos that is the bedroom.

Looks like a great party! (Although I'm not sure I could be in the same room with the giant spider :O)

Our dog used to run next to the vacuum cleaner and bark at it.

Tookie, sadly, is pretty deaf these days and doesn't even notice the vacuum cleaner unless it bumps into her, Thor stalks off in a huff, but Mal takes off so fast he's just a little grey blur and a sonic boom.
