It was a close thing this morning, making myself go running. I did it, though. Nine laps, same as Friday, only difference being I ran the first eight with only one quarter mile walking break. I did walk the entire last lap, though, so I still only ran seven and a half laps. I think Tuesday runs are just gonna suck, though. The first lap was just plain awful, with my knees hurting with every single step (this is continued on from all day yesterday, so not specifically related to running). It really is amazing how the pain goes away after a while, though, or else I become so used to it that I don't notice it any long, because by the end of the second lap it all felt much better.

Now my right knee is bitching at me pretty loudly - doing the thing where it gets cranky on stairs (and today it's cranky even just walking on flat surfaces, which doesn't bode well) but I've taken some advil and it should be good as new tomorrow.

Congrats on another successful training day! I had to skip the gym yesterday to attend a student's dissertation proposal meeting (ah, the sacrifices I make for education!) so I'm itchin' to get there today.

One of my colleagues has an ice pack that he keeps at work and puts on his knee as soon as he comes back from his workout. I'm not sure how he keeps it on his knee but he walks around like that for part of everyday. (Now that would be something to get the kids' attention!)

Yeah, I don't know that an ice pack would work well, since I don't get to sit still much, but I keep taking advil, so hopefully that will be enough.

Thanks! I just need to find a way to fit a third running day in each week, then I'd be doing even better.

Well, the knee was cranky all the time when I did the running thing a couple years ago, but it never got significantly worse, so it's probably ok this time around as well.

Congratulations, you're doing great! Have you had your knee checked out by a doctor? Because that's the way my knee started to go, and after two years of enduring I ended up in physical therapy for a year. Do you have a brace you could use? I know you can buy them at Walmart or Target for like ten dollars, and that may help with afterward. Also, icing is a really good idea, because from the sounds of it your knee is inflamed.

I hate to sound like I'm harshing your squee, but knees are tricky things and I'd hate to see you go through what I did.

Take care, and congratulations on the running!

I've had this problem off and on for close to twenty years and it hasn't ever really progressed to anything worse than occasional crankiness. I have talked with doctors about it at different times (but it's always one of those things that disappears between the time I make the appointment and the appointment itself). At some point I'll have health care again and I'll be able to really investigate the problem, but in the meanwhile, I'm just babying the knee as much as I can, and it usually feels better the next day.

Don't worry about harshing my squee, it's good to hear legitimate concerns. :)

Good for you! I need to get myself moving as well. All this lying around isn't going to make me feel better. It's good to see motivating posts like this. :)

Even though it hasn't been long enough to see any real results in body shape or firmness, it really is a good feeling to know that I'm working on my health and fitness level. I feel much better about myself just for that. :)

That's awesome you're running again~ Hope your knees will be ok though! my knees tend to get sore too from running. This cold weather doesn't make me want to run outdoors and i somehow have to manage indoors with the treadmill (which i don't like). :p

I don't really mind the treadmill. At least as long as I have music - the other day I found out that my iPod was dead and had to run on the treadmill, just staring at the walls, for half an hour. That was not so much fun. But running on the track is nice, as long as it isn't too cold. Today was just right - cool enough to feel chilly standing still, but just right to not get overheated while running. Much colder though, and my throat would hurt too much to run.
