I decided to give Chuck another try this weekend and promptly tore through the entire season so far. I watched the first episode when it premiered and was left mostly unimpressed. I really liked Chuck, himself, but too much of it seemed a little too geek wet dream (the opening sequence with Bryce tearing through the building screamed geek fantasy to me) to me. Casey seemed over the top insane-o-grunt. And Chuck's complete lack of self-confidence seemed extreme even given the limited bit of backstory we got. So, when the next week rolled around I didnt even think about Chuck as a viewing option.

I didn't watch the pilot over again this weekend, so I can't say whether it really was as implausible as it seemed at the time, or if I was just in a bad viewing frame of mind, but I really liked the rest of the episodes I saw. While still being blatantly geek wet dream in nature, it also seemed slightly more grounded in the reality of people's reactions and emotions. So, it looks like I've found some good Monday viewing, finally.

Now I just need to find some other shows to catch up on as well. With only one Supernatural episode in December and other shows probably also going into hiatus because of the writer's strike I'm seriously going to need backups. I've got a whole list of movies on Netflix, but I want some more tv series to back up Gilmore Girls and Roswell. Any suggestions?

I've only seen a few episodes squirreled away on video sites, but I really like Pushing Daisies. Very tongue-in-cheek, it takes the murder mystery and adds a supernatural twist: the hero can bring the dead back to life, but once he touches them again they are dead forever; furthermore, if the formerly deceased is left alive for over a minute, someone else nearby will die. He teams up with a private investigator and helps him solve cases with first-hand info from the victims. Very good cast and the narration gives it an odd Dr. Seuss-Lemony Snicket-Tim Burton feel, plus the singing talents of some in the cast, like Kristin Chenoweth, allow for musical interludes.

Sounds like it's worth pursuing. I've seen it mentioned round about, but didn't know what it was all about. Thanks. :)
