The first step in breaking out of hermit-mode is acknowledging that you're in hermit-mode in the first place.

Hermit-mode? Check.

The second step in breaking out of hermit-mode is leaving the house for something that isn't work related.

Getting out of the house? Check.

I didn't quite manage an evil Starbucks latte, but I did get out for a couple of hours. I walked into Squirrel Hill, browsed in Barnes & Noble for an hour or so, bought two new books, went to Panera for lunch (I bought a chai tea latte, which was close enough to what I wanted), stopped in at the Record Exchange and bought a CD, spent an hour or so at the library and then bought some groceries and headed home.

Sadly, I had my headphones on the whole time and spoke to no one other than necessary exchanges at checkout registers, so it was sort of like a traveling hermit-mode, but I was out of the house for a good three hours for non-work related things. It's a work in progress. I'll keep working on it and hopefully I'll make progress.

On the plus side, I now have two new books to read (Coyote Blue by Christopher Moore, and The Way to Glory by David Drake) and four dvds from the library (Chocolat, Cider House Rules, Adam's Rib and MirrorMask). And I'm currently listening to my new CD (Inside In/Inside Out by The Kooks). Came home and finished watching SGA (Miller's Crossing, 3x09), gonna clean a little, watch the last two eps of Gilmore Girls season four, and then plan out the rest of the weekend. There will be Christmas decorating at some point, I believe. Maybe not much because of the Destructo Kitten, but some.

You know, its a shame us hermits don't live closer together. We could form our own club... we could call ourselves something catchy... like, I dono, Hermits United or something.

How about the Hermit Reformation Society. We could establish a 12 step program, have coffee and donuts at the meetings. It would be fun.

At least you got out of the house, that's a good first step :-)

Yes, and it makes me feel better about my total lack of interest in leaving the house today (cold and rainy/sleety outside, warm and snuggly inside). :)

I just watched Chocolat last weekend, I do love that movie. Good for you getting out in the air for a few hours.

It's always a little hard to find movies I particularly want to see at the library, since they have a very small, eclectic selection. A mix of old and new, along with a fair amount of documentaries. Yesterday it was pretty well picked through so I'm surprised I was able to find four movies I actually had any interest in seeing.

Good for you! Headphones notwithstanding, it sounds like an admirably active, interactive and non-hermitty day!
