Got a thing in the mail from Pitt, just letting me know they thought I was a doctoral candidate and would I be coming to graduation to get hooded.

Good grief! That's one degree I don't see myself ever getting. Of course I was never planning to go back and get a second master's degree, either, so I shouldn't say never.

Okay, that nice fast run I had this morning? Holy heck, I'm paying for it, now. My right calf is killing me -- it was a long walk home after work. Looks like ice and advil for me, tonight.

It must be graduation season. I got three four commencement-related e-mail messages today: two from the chair saying the the college expects us all to show up for all commencement ceremonies in full regalia, one from the bookstore reminding us all to rent full regalia, and one from colleague asking if she can borrow a gown because she and her husband both have to attend the doctoral hooding ceremony and they only own one gown (although they both have a cap and a hood.) I think that last one effectively puts the lie to the idea that all faculty have be present for these things, so I'm planning to play hookie again!

I've also been getting lots of notices about it being commencement time, if I'd like to come for my actual earned degree. Part of me thinks it would be nice to actual do that ceremony and feel the full accomplishment of it, but what a phenomenal waste of time, really.

I think it is a good thing to do. A graduate degree is a big accomplishment, and there is little enough to mark it otherwise. I don't know about you, but all my diplomas are sitting around gathering dust somewhere, so they seem really non-meaningful.

When is your commencement - should family members find themselves in a positiion to attend and cheer your accomplishment?

End of April, Sunday the 27th. I don't really plan to go. It feels weird, since I graduated last August and had some sort of commencement thing then. That's the problem with not finishing your program in April - by the time the real Graduation Day arrives, we've all moved on.

I always get pain in my right hip after strenuous walking or light jogging. It's strange how we all seem to get affected in different areas.

The pains that I get seem to shift from one month to the next. My knees haven't hurt in a while, but this pain in my calves seems bound and determined to linger. :(

My upper body is totally sore today-- possibly from the girly pushups? My rear end is sore too. Stupid elliptical. I took a hot bath which probably isn't so good for my shins but it felt nice anyway.

The ice/advil combo I applied seems to have worked pretty well, but man, I was hurting when I got home. Probably didn't help that I stood in the field at work watching the kids play ball for the better part of an hour. By the time I packed up all the balls and headed back to the playground, I was really sore.
