Dec. 19th, 2004 06:43 pmGod, I have been in the crappiest mood since forever and I see no sign of it all ending anytime soon. I thought it was all PMS and insomnia and work stress, but at the moment I'm not suffering from any of those things, and I still feel completely foul. I don't think I've read any fanfic in a couple of weeks, I haven't written the stories I still owe people, I can't get motivated to do anything. This sucks.

On a brighter note, I had a fabulous time yesterday.
eve11 came over in the afternoon and we watched the EE. We both like to comment on things during movies, so it was good that her SO didn't come along. He would have killed us within the first half hour, lol.
Eve11 knows that I'm not going to be with family or anything this Christmas and so she cooked a small Christmas dinner and brought it along with her. She made yummy turkey medallions, mashed potatoes, absolutely delicious stuffing, and also brought cranberry sauce. Mm mm good! And now I have lots and lots of leftovers, which is one of my favorite things about holiday feasts. We also had a glass of champagne each - I only had a little two cup bottle that someone gave me at work - which made the meal even better.
I love the EE. I really do. That being said, there are still things that I want to see, that aren't there.
Pippin has some great added scenes. The conversation with Faramir outside Denethor's hall is wonderful, with Pippin getting a chance to show some maturity and wisdom, reassuring Faramir that his father will eventually remember his love for Faramir. The Houses of Healing scene is a nice addition although Eowyn seems to heal from that broken arm rather quickly.
They still don't explain how it is that Merry is found on the field of battle, clearly badly wounded, and yet the next time we see him, he's riding off to the next battle. I'm not satisfied with that at all. I did, however, love all the added and extended scenes with Merry in them, particularly the one where he's killing orcs on the Pelennor.
As always, I liked Billy and Dom's commentary the best (in the cast commentary - I haven't watched the rest yet). They really do have such great chemistry between them. They seem almost to be able to read each other's minds, each knowing where the other is going with something and exactly how to follow up on it. I was getting a little annoyed with Elijah and Sean, neither of whom can ever let the other finish a story without interrupting. John Rhys-Davies was as pompous as ever, but he was being a bit more humorous than usual, so he did manage to make me laugh several times. His description of PJ's direction in the Paths of the Dead sequence was hilarious. As always, I wish Viggo did commentary, as I'm sure he would have a lot of very insightful things to say, and also be funny as hell. I love watching him in the documentaries.
As far as the documentaries go, there was far to much Elijah and not enough Dom for my taste, but all in all, very entertaining, fun and informative, as well as rather bittersweet in places. Everyone talked about the reality of finishing the film and saying goodbye for the last time, and several times people got a bit choked up. It was all very touching.
I'm feeling a bit flat now, knowing there isn't anything more coming from this crew, as a crew. I want more! Oh well, at least there's Lost. And apparently Billy and Dom are still working on their screenplay. Now that is one project I want to see come to fruition!

Date: 2004-12-19 08:17 pm (UTC)My friend Ray and I were trying to determine when is it appropriate to comment during a movie, especially during an excellent movie like RotK. Since we had both seen it in the theater, we were okay with a few comments. We decided comments that were in the spirit of a scene were okay as long as we weren't speaking over a character on screen. Also, it is forbidden to rail the story or characters in anyway, by making MST3k quips. At any rate, sounds like you two had fun. :)

Date: 2004-12-20 03:19 am (UTC)I also wanted to see that clip from the Black Gate battle, especially as they mentioned they filmed quite a lot more of Merry and Pippin fighting. And, although I understand why they didn't put it in, I would have *loved* to see the "We'll see the Shire again" moment! Maybe in the 25th anniversary DVD they could have some feature where you get to see all the alternative takes they did :)

Date: 2004-12-20 04:49 am (UTC)I saw an interview with Dom once where he was asked about his favourite scene, and he said it was one after Pelennor when Merry and Pippin were first starting to talk to each other about what had happened and what they'd been through since they last saw each other.
Apparently, every cut scene was Dom's favorite scene, but I would really like to see that one.

Date: 2004-12-20 03:35 am (UTC)I wanted houses of healing with Merry too. I also wanted more extras of the cast during the filming. I am very greedy I guess. LOL
I hope you feel better soon. The holidays can really get to a person. The other day I was all for taking the tree down and putting everything away now. I get over-whelmed. Too much to do to get ready and too much to do afterward. I still need two gifts! The whole season can give one a major headache. Take heart, January is on the way!

Date: 2004-12-20 04:54 am (UTC)Thanks for your well-wishes. My problem is that I don't have enough to do and I find myself sitting around brooding. I need to keep myself busier, lol.
