Jun. 4th, 2008 11:08 pmSo, win or lose, this is the last home game of the year. I hope it's a good one. First impression: pucks are flying around without a hell of a lot of control by the Pens. But it's early in the game. They just need to settle down and focus on the puck.
First penalty of the game is against Sydor for interference. Rafalski scores. The Pens are down at the very beginning.
Second penalty is against Drake for Holding, I think? Pens power play. And another Detroit penalty - 5 on 3. But Gonchar took another hit to the head. Yeah, the Pens just can't break trhough. This is the second time in the series they've had a 5-on-3 and both times they've been totally blocked.
Another Detroit powerplay - Hall's stick went into Lidstom's face. Well, the Pens did a much better job that time.
End of the first period, score 1-0 for Detroit.
Alright, coming back for the second period. The boys have had time to think about what they're doing. Let's see if they can make some plays.
Penguins power play. Pretty much as expected, nothing comes of it.
Oh, this is just grim. Detroit scored again. Now it's 2-0.
Finally! Penguins powerplay results in a goal. 2-1, now, and we can hope this re-energizes the boys.
And pretty much immediately, Roberts gets a penalty, giving Detroit a power play.
Fight! Franzen waling on Orpik. Only a couple seconds left on the powerplay and the Pens kill it.
Okay, well, end of the second period, Pens are still behind by one, but they were last to score. They seemed to have a little more energy right at the end of the period, so the game's not over yet.
Okay, third period. Time to kick it up into high gear.
Well, damn. Red Wings scored again. Stupid. Fleury thought he was on the puck but it was behind him, he sat back and pushed it over the line. Grr!
Fleury's on the bench, Pens have a poerplay. less time on the clock than on the powerplay. Pens score with 1:27 to go. Only down by one. Can they pull another miracle?
0:45 left on the clock and the Red Wings have a time out. Pittsburgh has an empty net. Everyone is out.
So close. They almost got it in at the last second, but just not quite. Detroit won the Stanley Cup. My boys fought hard, I'll give 'em that. So, congratulations to them, condolences to the Penguins, and I'm going to bed.
