Phew, I made it through the day. Now I can be happy it's Friday. And boy, let me tell you, the rough start was only indicative of how it would continue.
First off, I printed out a picture I promised I'd find for one of the kids. It got mixed up in some stuff the Ast. Director printed out, and before I knew it, she'd cut it up into pieces. *sigh* Luckily, the particular kid who wanted to see it wasn't in today, because I never did find time to reprint it - that will have to wait till Monday, now.
Then, right after we'd spent a good forty minutes out in the Very Hot day, we got back to our classroom to find out there'd been a water main break and we had no water. Seriously. No water. Not even to wash hands or flush the toilet. Now, to be fair to the city, they got the water going again within half an hour. But, the water that was going was brown and undrinkable the rest of the day. I was kinda pissed and thought they should just call the parents and send us all home. I know no one wants to do that, but the kids need drinkable water on days like this. That didn't happen however, so we did our best to soldier on.
We do have a big ice maker in the kitchen, with a filter on it's water line, so we were able to at least fill pitchers with water and drink that as it melted. That notwithstanding, I got a vicious head rush in the middle of the afternoon, after another half-hour outside (this time playing in the sprinklers). I stood up too quickly, the world went dark, I got really dizzy and had to put my head between my knees for a little while. Oh yeah, it was a fun day.
To be fair though, the kids did improve my mood a lot more than I expected. It's hard to be grumpy when they're just so happy and carefree. At various times during the day one child or another would do or say something that just lightened me up a little. Enough to get through the day without going psycho. And now it's weekend time. If Tookie could just remember that I already fed her, I think we could have a pleasant evening. *thinks positively while removing cat from head*
