Books, they do a body good.
Jul. 6th, 2008 02:18 pmIt doesn't happen nearly as often as it used to (probably because I'm not buying new books as often as I used to) but this has been an Alphabetizing Weekend. On Friday I went through all my CDs and alphabetized them (they were scattered round in all sorts of random ways) and today I've done the same with my books (only the paperbacks, for the moment, but I'm sure it won't be long before my insanity drives me to do the oversize and hardbacks as well). It was useful if for no other reason than it made me aware that, although I'd thought them all unpacked, I was missing at least one box of books. That found and all books accounted for, I realized that even though I have vastly fewer numbers than I did before the grand Giving Away of Everything several years ago, I still have a decent number of books. So, I now have the two half-size bookshelves and the little shelves on my desk filled to brimming. Any new ones coming in will be reduced to stacks on the floor.
I feel soothed by all this alphabetizing, and by having my books all nicely organized and filling up the shelves. Now, whenever I want to read some well-loved book, I'll know exactly where it is.
