Take me to your robot

Couldn't sleep last night. Tossed and turned for hours, and then, when I finally fell asleep, the cats woke me up at sixish. I finally gave up and got out of bed a good half hour early. On the plus side, it's Friday.

Apparently, Pittsburgh is celebrating it's 250th anniversary. It's a pretty lowkey kind of anniversary, if you ask me. I didn't even know about it until I picked up an intriguing pamphlet at the library.

Robot250 is a really cool way to celebrate what the city has become in the past half century. We've already got fieldtrips planned to a bunch of the places where some of these things are taking place and I think it will be very interesting to see the reactions of our 4-5 year olds. Today we are going to see the Roving Art Cart, which is a great thing. It's a CitiParks thing, travelling to different parks and playgrounds all summer long, bringing art to kids. They always have some really neat stuff going on, and this summer they're doing the Robot250 stuff. I'm looking forward to it.

The art cart really is a great thing the CitiParks organization does. I don't know where they get the funding for it, considering the parks people don't have the money to do basic repairs on the city playgrounds, but maybe it comes from a different department.

Minnesota is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year...sort of. What there's money for. Maybe Pittsburgh is saving money on advertising.

I still haven't seen any other sign of it, so I'm not sure how big a celebration it really is.
