Jul. 18th, 2008 01:24 pmSo sleepy. So. Very. Sleepy.
The Roving Art Cart was great fun. I think all the kids enjoyed it. My favorite bit was the petting zoo. They had sheep, a pot-bellied pig (ugliest thing ever), wee small goats with their tiny little kids (cutest things ever), a llama, a cow, chickens, geese, even a turkey. More than half the kids were eager to get in the pen and feed the animals. And only one of those kids got in there and then got frightened by the up close and personal demands of the animals.
It was a huge affair this year, with at least five or six art/craft stations. Although they're doing a robotics thing, on Fridays they do something special and this week it was "an Indian village." So there was a woman named Running Deer who did a little show and tell of (one segment of) Native American life, with a baby in a cradle in a tree, a bear skin, a teepee, etc. Then the kids got to make beaded and feathered hair ties. Next they made little clay coiled pots (except that they didn't make pots, they just made little coils and snails). That took up most of the time we had, but there was also a area for painting totem poles (huge cardboard-type tubes) and getting face painting, as well as the petting zoo and a robotics area that we never saw close-up. It really impressed me, since the last time I went it was two tables, one with clay and one with easel painting.
Now I just have to get through another four and a half hours of work before I can go home and crash. Did I mention how sleepy and tired I am? Cause, yeah. So tired.
