We've got one of these beauties living in the neighborhood where I work (not this one in particular, though - one of these days I'll actually have my camera with me when he's around).

We've seen him a couple of times on the playground across the street from school. One day sitting on a branch overhanging the playground. Today he was soaring in circles over the school and across the street, screaming that very distinctive hawk scream (again, sadly, not my photo). It's kind of amazing how red it's tail really is, even when seen at a bit of a distance it's unmistakable.

He's quite distracting. I just wanted to set myself down and watch him, instead of paying attention to the kids - I see them all the time, after all, and this is the first time I've actually seen a hawk circling around like that, or heard one in real life. Very cool.

It's cool to see such an untamed animal in the city. It's also really cool to watch the kids experiencing it. :)

It really is pretty neat to see wildlife bigger than a pigeon. :)

One of the things I like about OK is that we see hawks a lot! I love to see them gliding over the trees.

I wish we had at least a mating pair here, but it seems to be only one. He (she?) must be lonely.

We had a hawk on campus last year, it was beautiful! I hope you get a picture of it :)

I take my camera to work with me every day but do I ever remember to actually take it out of my bag and carry it around with me? Of course not.

*vows to do better*

You could amuse yourself by imagining which not-so-well-behaved youngsters he might pick up to take for a little ride!

There were a few that I would have happily sent off today - I was helping out with the next younger group and my God! those kids are young and babyish. It's hard to believe by next summer they'll be the same age as the kids I've got now. But then again, we all say the same thing every single year. And some of 'em were pretty darn cute, too.
