I have to say, much as I've not been impressed with McCain's campaign, I was very impressed with his concession speech. I'm tired, but I'm staying up for Obama's speech. No way I'm going to miss that.
I agree with you - McCain gave one helluva concession speech - full marks for content and for what I believe is his genuine sincerity. I'd have to say that I respect the guy and think he is a pretty good Senator, but the thought of him as President scared the living shit out of me. And I hated so much about his campaign. That woman who narrated so many of his ads, sounding like she was scraping something nasty off the bottom of her shoe whenever she mentioned Obama made me want to hurt someone.
Loved Obama's speech. Loved the tone, loved the humility, loved the cadence and Yes-we-canniness. Is it my imagination, or has the world changed tonight?
Obama is definitely a skilled and eloquent speaker, which makes for a welcome change. McCain's speech was very gracious, but man oh man, he stumbled every other sentence (although I'm willing to grant some of that may have been due to strong emotion).
Obama is definitely a skilled and eloquent speaker It is going to be something when the whole country can look forward to an intelligible and interesting State of the Union address, eh?
Yeah, McCain stumbled a good bit, but he definitely hit all the right points - thanked his supporters but wouldn't put up with any booing of Obama; made it clear that the Union is the most important thing and that we all MUST work together if we want a better country and world, and threw his support fully behind the President-elect. I can forgive the stumbles if he follows through in that intention - and I do expect he will. I do admire him; I'm just glad as all get-out that he didn't win!
