Up at six to go to the gym? Check.
Start work early and stay late because of insanity? Check.
Go to bar for food and hockey? Check.
Word of the day? Manchild

I met up with [livejournal.com profile] eve11 after work to grab some supper and watch the Pittsburgh - Minnesota game. Both teams scored within seconds of each other about five minutes in, and then that was it until Minnesota scored in a shootout after overtime failed to resolve anything. Way to be disappointing, Pens.

How did "manchild" come to be in your vocabulary today?

Probably one of those 'you had to be there' kind of stories. But one of the announcers during the pre-game stuff called one of the Pens players (Crosby? Malkin? Staal? I don't remember) a manchild, in reference to his young age. Eve and I both thought it was remarkably funny.

I too wondered how this got to be the word of the day. Believe me the older you get the more manchildren(?) there are in hightly responsible positions in the world. I completely get it.

Oh, I believe you. I'm noticing it more and more myself.

That's why I will never grow up. :)

it was in reference to Jordan Staal. Who, oddly enough, does look like a giant 12-year-old.

I knew you'd remember who it was. Actually, I went to the website to see who was youngest, and figured it probably was Staal but that was after posting, lol.

The only time I run across that word is in fiction. Seriously, that's funny!

What's the story behind "manchild"?! Do tell...
=D

Hockey players are so damn young. One of the announcers referred to one of the Pens as a manchild and [livejournal.com profile] eve11 and I thought it was pretty funny.

Ah. Yes.

Working at the college, I see many of these manchildren. Some are quite cute. I'm ashamed when I realize just how young they are...young enough to be my sons. Gulp!
=D

Sorry to hear about the hockey disappointment. And, just who was being a manchild today? Not that Mankitten of yours?

According to the sports announcer, the manchild was one of the Pens. I don't remember which one, offhand, but several of them are barely in their twenties, if that. Crosby turned twenty-one a couple of months ago and Staal only just turned twenty. They're babies, basically.

Mankitten! LOL-- That is indeed a good description of Mal!

It really is a good description. Big as a full-grown cat, but still a bit adolescent. :)
