Oops

Babysat tonight.

The kids are easy, I've watched them a number of times, and they go to bed at seven pm, so I have the whole evening to laze around watching tv.

Things went swimmingly. Fed the baby, listened to the five year old read a story, put them both to bed. Made myself a plate of pizza and salad ("Why do we always have pizza when there's a babysitter?" the five year old asked), poured a glass of soda, headed into the living room for some quality tv time.

Pretty much immediately spilled the soda all over the coffee table and everything on it. Including their laptop. D'oh!

I ran around like a mad thing to get it all cleaned up and not sitting in a pool of carbonated sugar water, then cleaned everything else up. Then spent the rest of the evening dreading the moment of explanation when they got home.

Turns out the thing is old, secondhand, and already mostly broken, so even if it suffered further damage they're not going to sweat it. Phew, bullet dodged. Still, it was a ridiculously boneheaded thing to do.

I'd be terrified if I'd done something like that to somone else's computer. A friend of mine actually did it with mine once many years ago. We were sitting side by at the computer and he spilled coke on the keyboard. When I confronted him with it he denied the whole thing (even if I saw him) and I had to pay for a new keyboard. We never were close friends, but I'm thinking this didn't make us any closer.

Yeah, I was worried that I'd lost a good babysitting client, but luckily, I I will defintely be more careful with my drinks from now on, however.

It was really funny - when I was a kid pizza was a rare and special treat. Now, kids get it so often they're tired of it. :)
