Let it Snow!
Dec. 24th, 2008 01:34 pmJust popping in quickly to say I'm here, alive, in the Great White North. It was a bit of an adventure getting here, mostly just a matter of hurrying up and then waiting around. Luckily, none of my flights were cancelled or significantly delay, although we did sit on the runway in Philly for a good hour. My flight from Philadelphia was crowded because the previous two flights had been cancelled for various reasons and there were lots of people who'd been waiting for nine-twelve hours with the hope that this flight wouldn't be overbooked or also cancelled.
But I had plenty of time to visit with
antbee362, which was lovely. We had a little trouble finding each other, and navigating the airport to find a restaurant outside of the security area took a little doing, but we persevered and had a decent meal.
Once in Manchester,
lyda_pearl and I had a bit of a wait because
ani_no_mouse's flight was delayed by about an hour, so it was after 1 AM when we got to our hotel. Yesterday we had a relaxed morning and then drove up to be reunited with the dogs. After a bit of a rest and a meal, we went out for a very snowy walk with
whtmntnwmn and all the dogs. It was a short walk, which was fine since I was already exhausted and tromping through a foot plus of snow was fun but tiring.
Last night we had frozen pizza for supper and then watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas (original animated version) and then I totally crashed and went to bed, not realizing it was only eight o'clock.
Today, feeling much refreshed, I spawned a quest for fabrics, in order to make slipcovers for LP's new dining room chairs. At the moment she is protecting them from her cat's claws with aluminum foil, which only works so well. We had a great time at a quilt fabric store (owned by one of the contestants of Survivor: Australian Outback) where we picked out enough fabric to drape the whole house, and out of which we plan to somehow craft slip covers. I'll be sure to photo-document this process to share the hilarity with all.
This afternoon, we're heading out to the forest to pick out and cut down a tree, which I've never done before so should be quite fun. Also exhausting, as I've mentioned the deep snow. We've all got snow shoes, but I find them very tiring to walk in, so it will be a good exercise (needful since I haven't been to the gym in a while).
I've already got lots of pics, which I'll post once I get home. Now I must run to get some soup in me before heading back out again. But before I go, let me just say, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!to everyone who is celebrating the holiday. Hugs and love to you all.
