On the plus side, the DVD player is working just fine. On the negative side, the tv is not.

Mal was on a royal tear last night, racing about the place, body slamming the furniture and riccocheting off the walls like he still occasionally does. And then he wanted to look at the cards I've got up on my mantel, so he jumped up onto the dvd player or the tv (I'm not sure which). This is something he does all the time to no ill effect, but last night he must have had a little too much energy left from his mad tear. When he jumped down he managed to shake the whole thing (tv and dvd player sit on a rickety coffee table) enough to knock everything over. The table was on its side, the tv was face down on the floor and the dvd player was upside down. How it's still working I will never know. The tv isn't completely dead, either. But the picture is now slanted about twenty degrees or so. Not completely unwatchable, but not really pleasant to watch, either. I might be getting some extra money from work this spring - some one-time grant thing that would give money to teachers with bachelor degrees and several years experience in child care - and I was already planning to use some of that money to get a new tv, but now it looks like I won't be waiting. Time to do some research to see who has the best deals this weekend.

Meanwhile, poor Mal scared himself and me silly. He crept up to the mess, very low to the ground, all freaked out, and then retired to the top of the sofa, where he laid himself down with his head hung low for a while. He seems perfectly, obliviously recovered today.

This definitely tops the two laptop cables he chewed through a few months ago. He's an expensive kitty, that's for sure.

Seems to be a good time to buy right now--the stores are even letting customers haggle. You might get a very good deal.

Yeah, I've been keeping an eye on the prices. Because I have to buy now rather than when I planned to, I'll have to modify what I want a little, but I should still be able to get something pretty good.

Hmm, time for a digital-ready flat screen? Let us know what you pick -- we may need to be in the market for a new TV soon, too.

I got a Dynex 19" HDTV. I had never heard of Dynex before, and the sales guy said it's a BestBuy brand, made for them by LG. I'm crossing my fingers that it's as good a brand as Magnavox. That's what the old tv is, and it's proved to be very sturdy and long lasting. Even getting dropped on it's front all that happened was the picture got crooked across the screen. That's probably something that someone more savvy than me could fix - I'll have to see about donating it to some organization that will be able to fix it and resell it.

Bad kitty!

My two have not yet destroyed any furniture or appliances, but Katya is definitely disrupting my sleep. I spend most of the night lifting her off my face and/or trying to cover my face sufficiently with the pillow so she can't get at it. Then both kittens jump on top of the pillow to sleep and I imagine myself being accidentally smothered. I'm beginning to wonder if there is any such thing as Bitter Orange Night Face Creme that I could smear on my neck and face to dissuade her from her belief that my head is her long lost mother.

That would be most annoying. Tookie started pestering me early today and by seven o'clock she was just standing on my pillow, yowling in an increasingly desperate tone. I had to get up and feed her just to save my sanity. And then I was so sleepy I forgot to give her any medicine for the second morning in a row (I gave them to her a little while ago so she's good now).
