Destructo Cat Strikes Again!
Jan. 8th, 2009 06:55 pmOn the plus side, the DVD player is working just fine. On the negative side, the tv is not.
Mal was on a royal tear last night, racing about the place, body slamming the furniture and riccocheting off the walls like he still occasionally does. And then he wanted to look at the cards I've got up on my mantel, so he jumped up onto the dvd player or the tv (I'm not sure which). This is something he does all the time to no ill effect, but last night he must have had a little too much energy left from his mad tear. When he jumped down he managed to shake the whole thing (tv and dvd player sit on a rickety coffee table) enough to knock everything over. The table was on its side, the tv was face down on the floor and the dvd player was upside down. How it's still working I will never know. The tv isn't completely dead, either. But the picture is now slanted about twenty degrees or so. Not completely unwatchable, but not really pleasant to watch, either. I might be getting some extra money from work this spring - some one-time grant thing that would give money to teachers with bachelor degrees and several years experience in child care - and I was already planning to use some of that money to get a new tv, but now it looks like I won't be waiting. Time to do some research to see who has the best deals this weekend.
Meanwhile, poor Mal scared himself and me silly. He crept up to the mess, very low to the ground, all freaked out, and then retired to the top of the sofa, where he laid himself down with his head hung low for a while. He seems perfectly, obliviously recovered today.

Date: 2009-01-09 03:31 pm (UTC)My two have not yet destroyed any furniture or appliances, but Katya is definitely disrupting my sleep. I spend most of the night lifting her off my face and/or trying to cover my face sufficiently with the pillow so she can't get at it. Then both kittens jump on top of the pillow to sleep and I imagine myself being accidentally smothered. I'm beginning to wonder if there is any such thing as Bitter Orange Night Face Creme that I could smear on my neck and face to dissuade her from her belief that my head is her long lost mother.
