Hated, loathed, despised this week. The joy I feel at its ending knows no bounds! Yay for Friday!

*clears throat*

Okay, now that that's out of my system, moving right along.

Weather is crappy, cold and snowy. This worked to my advantage. [livejournal.com profile] eve11 showed up at work shortly before I was done to see if I wanted to go tv shopping (originally planned for tomorrow morning). Originally I was planning to have a nice big lump sum of extra cash later this winter to buy a tv, stand and Wii. I have a small apartment and don't need a giant tv, but I wanted to get something in the 26" range. But then Mal, not being privy to the plan, decided to destroy my tv this week. So I downsized my expectations to maybe just a 22" tv. Leave the stand and Wii until I get the money (if I get the money). Then I saw the prices. I could have got a 22" Dynex, but it was at the top of how much money I felt comfortable spending and I also wanted to get the four year Geek Squad service warranty, which would have put it over. But then I found a little 19" returned tv (no box) that was discounted. After much debate, I finally decided to go with the 19". It's small, but the price was right. And we had the guy who was helping us plug it in so we could both look it over and make sure the picture was good (it had to have been returned for a reason, after all, and post-return inspection or not, it's better to check these things).

So now I have a pretty little flat panel HD television. I, of course, do not have a cable package that includes HD channels, but that's fine. I'm not worrying too much about that. Oh, and the tv comes with a built in dvd player on the side, so I also don't have to worry about getting an upconverter dvd player (I never even heard of these things before, but apparently my regular dvd player wouldn't give me a great picture on a high def tv, and the upconverter dvd player is a whole other scam that I'm not willing to deal with right now).

All I can say now is, new tv ftw! I hope it lasts me as many years as the last one did. *knocks on wood* And now I need to figure out the best disposal method for old CRT tvs.

It sounds like you did very well with your shopping and budget! I watch a wee 10" (non-HD) TV in my bedroom which I'll someday upgrade, so I know how quickly we can acclimate to any size.

If it comes down to a small tv vs no tv, I'll take the small one every time. :)

Yes, this was a very long, ugly, week. I was thrilled to see that it was Friday also.

Congrats on the new TV. Have you Mal-proofed it?

It really does seem as if they come up with a way to make all of your electronics worthless, doesn't it. Upgrade, upgrade, up-greed!

For now, the new tv is sitting on the floor. That's where it will stay until I can come up with a better solution than the coffee table I have now.

Leave them in a room and tell Mal not to touch them?

Well, that would certainly break them down into smaller pieces, at any rate, lol.

Yay for the new TV, ouch to the bad week. I want a flat screen TV as well, but my old one isn't broke just yet...

*hugs*

It's amazing how much easier it is to cough up money for a new thing when the old thing no longer works. :)

Yay for Fridays, new toys, and good deals.

It was a very rough week for all... Let's hope next week will be MUCH better.

New tv sounds great. The floor also sounds like the best place for it unless you can find a place way up out of harms/Mals way. Will it mount on the wall? lol

I am still trying to find a way to keep the laptop out of Sibbie's way. She doesn't give up too easily.

I thought about a wall mount, but I don't have the right equipment for that, plus it's an apartment, so I don't want to damage the walls any more than I have to. For now, it seems safe enough on the floor.

I'm so glad we went shopping last night, because it is snowing like the dickens up here. There's a good four inches on my car, and despite hearing the plow go through earlier this morning the road is just a big white strip. O_O And it's still coming down! I'm quite happy to not venture out today :)

At least you're getting real snow. There was a little snow this morning, but it's mostly all shifted over to sleet and freezing rain now. It looks really icy out there.
