What better way to spend an otherwise crappy evening, than to watch Lord of the Rings. I put Fellowship in, settled back, ate some non-virtual chicken soup (brought over by [livejournal.com profile] eve11, who brought me a whole bag of goodies - tissues, food, Nyquil, and chocolate - on her way home from work) and now I'm ready to put the second disc in. I'm also ready to sleep, but I know how deceptive that feeling is. I was dead tired last night, went to bed at ten, and didn't sleep until well past midnight. So I'm going to try to hold out at least till the end of the movie, tonight.

I'm glad you got some food at least! Absorb the healthifying effects of LOTR and feel better soon. ;)

I'm feeling at least marginally better this morning, so I'm thinking it's a valid treatment option. :)

I, on the other hand, fell asleep at 8:30 pm and woke up at 11:00 pm - so I got up to try to do some work. Now I hope I will be able to go back to sleep because I think that 2 1/2 hour nap is really not going to get me through the whole day tomorrow (today)!

I hope that you are feeling much, much better soon! Many thanks to [personal profile] eve11 for providing the genuine real food & other goodies.

Obelia called it the 'healthifying effects of LOTR' and I feel at least a little better today, so I think she's right, lol.

so here's your warm thought for today since you are feeling better...
Since it was Wednesday night with Papa, last night with my daughter, we generally go to the library. At 9yrs old, she [and my 14.5 year old son] still like it when I read to them... prolly because I do the voices. So last nigh instead of of reading books she brought, I started reading the Hobbit to her. I wanted her to get the contrast between C.S. Lewis stuff [That she is working through with her mom] and JRR's. I liken it as thumbnail sketch vs. painting...

So I began to read, and there is no stronger reminder at how rich the english language can be as when you read it aloud... It's always amusing to me how many other kids in the library stop and listen when I am reading, as if their own parents don't read to them, but it was especially strong last night. Think I'll be reading her more this weekend... but all in all it is pretty powerful, and even more healthifying I hope. It's my warm fuzzy for you this day, anyway.

There are times when words work best out in the air, where the sound comes form the mouth and the ears hear... even with the strength of video, it is still sometimes true.

Feel better.

It's amazing, really, how hard-wired we are, as a species, for oral storytelling. I don't think it matters how literate a society is, or how many other ways there are to tell a story, we all still happily sit down and listen raptly when a storyteller is speaking. It's the same thing, I suppose, as our liking for live music. I know I, at least, will enjoy almost any music when it's performed live, whether it's music I would normally listen to or not.

Thanks for sharing the story. :)

I'm really and truly feeling much better. A little run down this afternoon, not too surprising, at the end of a long ick-filled week. But much healthier than a few days ago.
