I nearly cancelled on the gym this morning. Luckily, fate intervened and prevented me from doing any such silly thing.
Today was my first attempt at doing strength and speed training intervals. Warm-up is ten minutes at my normal pace (5 mph). Then one minute at as fast a pace as I can manage, followed by two minutes of walking to recover, repeating the cycle for twenty minutes. I haven't gone faster than 5 mph in a very long time, so my current 'fast' pace isn't actually anything like fast, but eh. Better than nothing.
I've determined that this should be limited to Thursdays. That gives my lrgs three days of recovery time before hitting the track again on Mondays (at least for now, I won't be using the track on Fridays because the building closes early on Friday and I won't have anywhere to keep my stuff while I'm running).
When the weather gets a little nicer, I want to try running on the Frick trails, which I could do on the weekends. I've also decided to go ahead and register for the Race for the Cure on Mother's Day. I really enjoyed running it last year, but it left me really, really sore and then I hurt my knee right afterwards, and all told it was probably five months or so before I was able to run again. I don't want that to happen this time around, so I'm hoping running on the asphalt track (very slowly and carefully) a couple times a week will build up my body's ability to deal with running on the street.
I'm exceptionally sleepy today. Tookie woke me up approximately every two hours last night. I don't even think she was all that hungry. She would scrabble her way up onto the bed and then make loud noises right in my face. If I successfully ignored her for a few minutes, she would go away for another couple of hours, which she doesn't do when she's starving, so I'm not really sure why she was being so noisy. Just the sheer joy of waking me up, I suppose.
