It's been a Rock Band afternoon, but I'm taking a little break to stretch my fingers out in ways they are more accustomed to. Plus, it turns out that, for me at least, playing Rock Band is unexpectedly hard on the knees and back.

The Malinators (yes, I named my band after Destructo Cat) have taken a break from their tour to get some practice in. They kinda suck, truth be told, and they need to work on their fingering. Seems they would be happy enough to stick around with the easiest songs, never going anywhere or getting better, but their manager thinks that's a lousy plan. So they've been practicing all afternoon. Now their fingers hurt. And their knees and backs.

The road to musical success is paved with hardships. I'm sure the band will be up to the task. : 0

Well, the tour promoter did tell them that they should try to play at a harder difficulty level, since they were doing so well on the easy level. But they're a little concerned that they'll lose all their fans if they do that, 'cause they'll suck. So they'll keep practicing for a little longer, lol.

Yeah, sucking is bad unless the entire audience is stoned. Then it works well. The practice is probably the best idea.

There are five fret buttons. Depending on the difficulty level, you may be asked to use three, four or all five. If you're playing on the easiest level, you'll usually only play one note at a time, but on the more difficult songs (you can choose a difficulty level for your fingering, and then there are also difficulty levels in the songs themselves) you may have to play two notes at a time. On the medium difficulty level, there are four notes and many, many times you'll be asked to do something like 1 and 3, 2 and 4, 3 and 4, 1 and 2, 2 and 3, 1 and 3, switching around like that. I have a hard time doing that, because the pinky and ring finger on my left hand always want to be doing the same thing at the same time. Plus, I get confused about which finger is for which note, sometimes, so I'll think I'm doing it right and start missing a lot of notes in a row, because I'm holding down the wrong fret button without realizing it. I'm getting better though.

I know there's the old saying "no pain, no gain," but don't get hurt!
=D

I won't. Mainly, my knees always get cranky if I stay in one position too long, and my back gets cranky if I stand for a long time. So every now and then I have to take a break and move around a bit. :)

The Malinators! I love it! Hope they make it to Oxford, the Live Music Capital of North Central Mississippi soon!
