It's Alive!

I don't understand technology. Why unplugging something and plugging it back in fixes so many things. But still. I came home, disconnected all the cords from the back of the Wii, waited a few minutes, plugged it back in, and voila! it's working again. Bizarre, but thank goodness.

Unplugging something cuts the current to cached memory, thus clearing it out. Or so I've been led to believe. I don't claim to understand why. I just know that it works.

eta: I was also going to add: "Darn. If was dead for good I could have sold you mine poor unit that is languishing from lack of use..."

Man, I was just glad that Destructo Cat hadn't struck again. I was worried that he might have chewed through another adapter cord or something. He has expensive tastes.

Tell that to my poor brand-new, still-in-the-box, 46 inch LCD TV that I bought in November of '07! Never got it up because I wanted everything cleared out, unpacked, put away, and redecorated. Now I'm looking at probably selling it for a month's worth of mortgage payment. *sigh*

I always forget to try unplugging everything before calling tech support, so I suppose it was good to go to work and have to wait a little while. It gave me a chance to go online and troubleshoot, thus preventing a totally wasted service call. :)

"Did you unplug/replug it" is the first thing our computer tech asks when called about a problem. Good advice...even if I rarely remember to use it.

Playful toys are much better than sickly toys. Of course, I was so tired when I got home from babysitting last night that I wasn't able to actually play anything, but it just made me feel better knowing it was working again. :)

I love simple solutions. I often try unplugging as a first resort with techie stuff. I think it makes everything go back to default settings or something to undo whatever goofy thing has happened. Doesn't that sound like I know about this stuff? I don't really.

Of course, I have no idea what caused it to shut down in the first place, other than Mal turning the surge protector off and on the night before. It seems like that shouldn't be enough to cause a major problem, but then, Mal isn't called Destructo Cat for nothing, lol.
