Ah, April 15th. Tax day.

Being absolutely unable to reach the city tax site last night, I got up a few minutes early this morning with the intention of getting things all taken care of before work, so I can go hang out with friends and watch the hockey game after work with no qualms. And then reality intervened.

Yes, I was able to get to the site, but I couldn't log on. Social Security number, no problem. PIN, um, well, I don't know. Where do I find my PIN? On the tax form the city mailed me back in January, which I paid no attention to since I didn't think I was going to need it. Seriously, I don't even remember getting one.

Okay, don't panic. I never throw stuff like that away, whether I think I'm going to need it or not, so it's got to be here somewhere. I frantically start rooting through the various piles of random stuff that counts as my current filing system. Nothing. I did manage to find my 2006 form, though, and entered the PIN given on that one, just in case the number stayed the same year to year. No dice.

Fine. This means I need to print out the pdf version of the form at work and fill it out then. So I put my computer away (today is an archives day, which means a traveling laptop day) get all ready to go and then decide to do one more search. And then, there at the bottom of a stack of mail from early 2008, late 2007, I find *sun breaks through the clouds, heavenly choir sings* my 2008 Pgh 40 tax form. Pull out my laptop, cross my fingers and click on the link, it opens, I enter four bits of information into the form, my taxes do themselves, I click submit and I'm All. Done. With. Taxes.

I walked to work in the rain, with a song in my heart, admiring the flowers and the buds and blossoms on the trees and feeling nothing but goodwill for all mankind. Once again, I've managed to get my taxes in (hours) before the deadline.
